Dr. Tony Jones always had always been "a do-the-right-thing kind of guy." He's done right by his friends, his family, even by people he didn't have to, like ex-wife Lucy Coe. Maybe that's why his cheating on spouse Bobbie with Carly Roberts and his subsequent kidnapping of Carly's baby caught everyone so off-guard.

When he arrived in Port Charles, the neurology resident was a hit with his General Hospital colleagues, but not with his own brother, Frisco. Frisco still blamed Tony for the fact that their mother died alone because Tony was busy between the sheets with her nurse. Eventually, Frisco's girlfriend, Tania Roskov, was able to reunite the siblings.

Later, after Frisco threw over Tania for newcomer Felicia Cummings, she sought comfort from - and found a devoted husband in - Tony. In 1986, helped by Bobbie and Jake Meyer, Tania gave birth to her and Tony's daughter, whom she named B.J., after Bobbie. A year later, Tony lost the woman he loved when Tania was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

It wasn't until Tony already had begun operating on teenager Corey Blythe that he learned that the boy was responsible for his wife's untimely death. Professional that he is, Tony saved Corey's life.

Since losing Tania, Tony was exceedingly vulnerable to the likes of Lucy Coe. Pregnant with Jake Meyer's child, she came to work for Tony as B.J.'s nanny, and after suffering a miscarriage, seduced her boss into marrying her.

All the while, Tony was growing ever closer to Bobbie Meyer. She was a respected colleague and a good friend - so good, in fact, that when Tony had to undergo brain surgery, he let it be known that if anything went wrong, he wanted Bobbie to control the purse strings of B.J.'s trust fund. Without even knowing it, the two of them had fallen in love.

After Tony had pried himself out of Lucy's clutches, he joyously married Bobbie in Puerto Rico in 1989. She and her adopted son, Lucas, joined Tony and B.J. to form one big happy family.

But it didn't last nearly long enough. In 1994, B.J. was killed in a tragic bus accident. Tony and Bobbie were forced to make the devastating decision to take their little girl, who was brain-dead, off life support and donate her heart to her cousin, Frisco and Felicia's daughter, Maxie, who had come down with Kawasaki syndrome.

The Joneses' marriage never fully recovered. After Bobbie strayed with mobster Damian Smith and almost with pal Alan Quartermaine, in 1996, Tony became embroiled in a love affair that he neither wanted to, nor could, end - with Carly Roberts, a young GH physical therapist. For the first time since B.J.'s death, Tony felt alive.

After Bobbie walked in on Tony and Carly in bed, she immediately divorced her husband and married Stefan Cassadine. Although Tony has contended that his and Bobbie's union was indeed over, they still remained friends.

Soon, Tony got tired of Carly's lies and manipulations and decided to sue for custody of Carly's unborn child. Carly found out about his plan and told Tony that Jason was the father of her child. The paternity tests performed when baby Michael was born proved that Tony was not the father.

After learning that Carly was Bobbie's long lost daughter, Caroline, Tony's world spiraled further downward and he started to go off the deep end. Tony then kidnapped Michael and held Robin captive when she learned what he had done. Jason rescued Michael and Robin and Tony was arrested and brought to trial. Helena Cassadine worked behind the scenes and got Tony off with a sentence of one year of community service. A distraught Carly then shot Tony, but he survived.

Tony's downward spiral continued and Bobbie was afraid to let him spend time alone with Lucas. Tony had quickly gone from one of the most respected men in Port Charles to one of the most loathed. During this time, only Felicia remained Tony's true friend and she tried her best to get him to turn his life around.

Tony spent his community service working at the clinic on the waterfront and eventually began to get back on the right track. Tony is regaining his respect at the hospital and Bobbie no longer has any hesitation about him spending time alone with Lucas.

An occasional singer-songwriter, Tony resides at 2790 Bristol St. Apt. #3E in Port Charles, New York.
