Ric Lansing is the half brother of Sonny Corinthos. Ric came to town under the guise of offering his legal services to Sonny. Sonny agreed to test him out and gave him odd jobs to do, but Carly never trusted him. Brenda Barrett remembered Ric from when she lived in South America with Luis Alcazar.

Carly and Ric soon formed a business partnership when he helped he helped her out with her new night club. The night that Carly caught Brenda and Sonny kissing on the docks, she spiraled out of control by getting drunk and the next morning she woke up naked next to Ric. They didn't actually sleep together but Ric decided to let Carly think they did so that he could use Carly to get Sonny to hire him full time.

Ric took a bullet for Sonny when there was a shootout at Carly's club, but Sonny still didn't fully warm up to Ric. This frustrated Ric, and caused him to become even more determined to take his brother down.

Carly was thrilled to discover she was pregnant, but was then distraught to think it could be Ric's. Carly found the strength to tell Sonny that she thought Ric drugged and raped her. Sonny took Ric hostage and demanded to know why Ric had it out so badly for him. Ric escaped and then kidnapped Courtney and told Sonny to meet him at a house on Martha's Vineyard that they both used to live. At the house, Ric told Sonny they were brothers and he hates Sonny because their mother chose Sonny over a life with Ric and his father. Ric also admitted he and Carly never slept together and the baby is his. Sonny spared Ric's life because they were brothers.

Ric fell for Elizabeth Webber, but still couldn't move past wanting to take down Sonny. When Ric blackmailed Courtney into marrying him, Liz told him she has had it, and broke it off with him. When Elizabeth found out she was pregnant with Ric's child, he was thrilled and they got married.

But their happiness was short lived when a love obsessed Faith framed Sonny to look like he had pushed Elizabeth down a flight of stairs causing her to lose their baby. Ric tried to be strong for Elizabeth's sake, but he now blamed Sonny for their loss and vowed to get revenge.

Ric decided to buy a new house with Elizabeth, but did not tell her that it had a special panic room. His plan to replace their baby with Carly and Sonny's baby came to fruition when Ric kidnapped Carly and locked her in the panic room. Lorenzo Alcazar soon figured out that Ric had Carly and partnered up with him. Meanwhile Elizabeth wanted to try to have another baby, but Ric had become so obsessed with Sonny and Carly's baby that he paid off Elizabeth's doctor to tell her she couldn't have any more children. He even crushed up birth control pills and secretly feed them to her. But Ric couldn't keep his prisoner forever and Elizabeth finally found Carly in the panic room. A shocked Elizabeth passed out, allowing Ric to take her to the hospital and convinced her what she saw was just a figment of her imagination when she passed out. Fueled by guilt, Ric told Sonny where Carly was, but before he could come get her, Lorenzo's men came and took her away.

To help redeem himself, Ric agreed to help Sonny find Carly who was now being held by Lorenzo on a boat. While they were in a clinic in Cabimas looking for Carly, Ric was shot and had dreams of Elizabeth coming to him. But back at home, Elizabeth had sought comfort by Zander Smith. She spent a night with him and eventually learned she was pregnant. When she told Ric she was pregnant, he was happy and wanted to raise the child as his own. They went to Zander and asked him to give up all his rights to his child so they could raise it as their own. After the Port Charles Hotel fire, Zander was presumed dead, but showed up in letters sent from the grave accusing Liz and Ric of separately being responsible for his death. It turned out Zander was actually still alive and framing them for his murder. But he could not run forever and eventually Zander was shot to death by the police.

When Elizabeth saw that Ric was still fueled by his desire to take his brother down, she left him and Port Charles to have her baby.

Ric recently discovered the truth that Sonny is the father of Alexis' baby. Still fueled by revenge on his brother, Ric has sparked up a flirtatious relationship with Alexis.
