Skye arrived in Pine Valley and it was revealed that she was Adam Chandler's estranged daughter from his first wife, Althea. Adam and Skye had a rocky relationship, although Skye was particularly close with her uncle Stuart. Skye flirted with Tad Martin, angering his wife Hillary. After Skye manipulated Tad into thinking Hillary was angry with him, she seduced him-only to have Hillary see them in bed! Disgusted, Tad ended all association with Skye.

Skye began working at TEMPO magazine. She had a brief fling with Mitch Beck, who dumped her for newly single Hillary Wilson. Skye sought comfort with friend Tom Cudahay and romance blossomed. Skye learned she may never be able to have children, but kept the truth from Tom, who wanted children desperately. When Tom found out, he was furious with her for lying, but eventually forgave her. The two married.

Skye was upset to learn that her uncle Stuart was marrying Cindy Parker, a woman with AIDS. Ignorant and fearful of the disease which she knew little about (and for her beloved uncle Stuart), Skye was not a supporter of the marriage. She aligned herself with an Anti-AIDS vigilante group that was planning a fire at the Hubbard residence, where Cindy was staying. The fire was set but Skye had feelings of guilt at the last minute. When she learned there were people inside the house-including Cindy and her son Scott- she risked her life to rescue them. Smoke inhalation caused her to entire a coma.

While Skye was comatose, Tom grew close to Barbara Montgomery. Skye woke up in time to witness Tom embracing Barbara, so she faked that she was still in a coma for a few weeks in an effort to buy time and think of a plan to save her marriage. Upon "waking" she faked paralysis to keep Tom. Tom felt guilty and ended his affair with Barbara…. but the two had developed feelings and couldn't stay apart. Unstable Skye kidnapped Barbara at gunpoint and was sent to Oak Haven sanitarium, where she slipped into a catatonic state. While there, the only person she would respond to was Barbara's ex-husband and fellow patient, Travis Montgomery. She had a brief fling with Travis, but he eventually returned to his wife Erica Kane.

Skye took an interest in Nico Kelly, but he was married. She continued to have a rocky relationship with Adam. When Adam Chandler, Jr (JR) was kidnapped, Skye was framed for the crime. Skye was proven innocent, but was deeply hurt that Adam believed she was capable of kidnapping. She began drinking heavily.

Skye began spending time with Jeremy Hunter, who tried to get her to stop drinking. Problems with Adam and fears over her relationship with Jeremy kept Skye drinking, just as Jeremy told her he loved her. Skye kept her drinking quiet but was eventually arrested for drunk driving. Skye started treatment for her alcohol problem, but her relationship with Jeremy couldn't survive the strain of her drinking.

Adam encouraged Skye to date Will Cortlandt, nephew of his longtime arch enemy Palmer. Palmer forbade a relationship between the two, so they dated on the sly. After their relationship was exposed, Palmer threw Will out of his house but eventually allowed the two to date. Soon they were engaged. However, Skye doubted Will's innocence when Palmer was poisoned and their relationship ended. Skye left Pine Valley soon after.

During her five years away, Skye met Dr. Jonathan Kinder and married him. She discovered Jonathan was using experimental drugs on his patients, sometimes resulting in their death. She was going to report him to the authorities, but Jonathan drugged her and kept her captive. Jonathan brought Skye with him to Pine Valley when he moved there, but continued keeping her captive. Ex-con Janet Green found Skye and rescued her. Upon her escape, a weakened Skye stumbled onto the Wildwind estate, where she witnessed Maria Grey and her brother-in-law Dimitri Marick having a one night stand.

Skye teamed up with Janet and Erica Kane to bring down Jonathan. After a confrontation, the three women believed they had accidentally killed him and struggled to hide the body, but Jonathan was actually alive and was soon after jailed for his crimes. Skye also met Edmund Grey, who she was attracted to. She was shocked when she met Edmund's wife Maria, who she had witnessed having an adulterous liaison with Edmund's brother Dimitri!

Skye quickly became obsessed with Edmund. When Maria found out she was pregnant, Skye bribed a lab technician to insure that Dimitri was listed as the father, hoping it would break Maria and Edmund up. Skye's ploy didn't work and Edmund stood by Maria, despite believing her daughter was not his. Skye vowed to tell Edmund the truth, but before she could Dimitri learned what happened and threatened to kill Skye if she ever revealed baby Maddie was not his daughter. Eventually Edmund learned the truth and a disgraced Skye left town.

Shortly after leaving Pine Valley, Skye met Dr. Ben Davidson and the two married. The union was short lived, and Ben thought their marriage was annulled. However, Skye never filed the papers and was brought to Llanview by Asa Buchanan to cause trouble for Ben. Skye refused to give Ben, in a blossoming romance with Viki Davidson, a divorce, but eventually agreed.

Skye took up with Max Holden, who was using Skye as a revenge tool against Blair Cramer. Blair shot Max, but Todd Manning, in an effort to help Blair, framed Skye for the shooting. Skye was released on bail and teamed up with Max to get Blair convicted. Their ploy worked and Blair was arrested, but as revenge Todd dropped a bombshell to Skye in front of everyone ---she was adopted by the Chandlers and her birth mother was Dr. Rae Cummings, a Llanview resident that Skye hated! Adam visited Skye to confirm the story. Rae and Skye slowly developed a mother-daughter bond.

Skye began to wonder who her biological father was, and learned Rae was going to Port Charles to talk to her old flame Alan Quartermaine. Suspecting Alan to be her father, Skye followed Rae to Port Charles.

Rae showed up at the Quartermaine house just in time for Alan and Monica to exchange their wedding vows. It turned out Edward had paid for Skye to be taken away from Alan and Rae, letting them think the baby had died.

Skye was not graciously welcomed into the family and had a difficult time being accepted by the Quartermaines, especially when Edward gave Skye ELQ shares. Skye wanted to help Emily get out of town because she was jealous of her relationship with Alan. But Emily didn't make it out of Port Charles because she got in a train wreck. Alan found out what Skye had done, but forgave her after he heard her speak at an AA meeting.

Skye found herself taken by Jasper Jax. When he told her he didn't think he would ever be able to love again, she saw this as a challenge. She made up excuses for him to come to her rescue and even almost drowned. But Jax of course rescued her and they ended up making love for the first time.

Edward wanted to take Jax down and decided to use Skye's insecurities about her relationship with him to get to Jax. Skye signed a deal with Edward to give him information on Jax. But when Jax proposed to Skye, she wanted out of her deal with Edward. When Edward threaten Skye that he was going to expose her, he had a stroke. While Edward was in a coma, Ned found out about the agreement and forced Skye to tell Jax the truth. When he found out he immediately broke off their engagement. Coming off of the heartache of losing Jax, she went on a drinking binge and woke up in Edward's hospital room. She then feared that she had unplugged Edward's respirator. She then immediately ran into hiding, but Jax was there again to save the day. He found out that Edward had been faking the coma and had unplugged the respirator on his own. Jax found Skye and forgave her.

But Skye's luck wouldn't last too long. On the eve of her wedding to Jax, presumed dead Brenda showed up very much alive. But Jax loved Skye and wanted to stay married to her. While trying to protect Brenda, Jax got shot and was paralyed. Thinking he might be incapacitated for life, Jax didn't want to be a burden to her and used Brenda to make Skye think they were still in love. Brenda supposedly had a mental illness that would eventually cause her to die. Skye decided to look futher into this and discovered that Luis Alcazar was actually lying to Brenda and she in fact was very healthy and not dying. But Skye kept this to herself and when Jax found out that she kept this information from him, he divorced her.

Jax and Brenda got back together and the night of their engagement party, Skye got drunk and ended up in Luis Alcazar's bed. Skye woke up and discovered that Luis had been thrown to his death off the hotel balcony. Skye had heard Brenda arguing with Lius earlier that night and told the police she saw Brenda kill him. But eventually Skye remembers the truth that Alexis Davis was the one who pushed Luis Alcazar to his death.

Skye still could not keep herself out of trouble. She teamed up with AJ Quartermaine to kidnap Kristina, but Jax came to her rescue. Tracy Quartermaine showed up in Port Charles claiming that Skye was not in fact a Quartermaine. Her father was another man whom Rae Cummings had an affair. But Alan still continued to treat Skye as his daughter.

After her experience with Kristina, Skye decided she wanted to have a baby of her own. When she asked Jax to father her child, he turned her down. She then got the devastating news that she would be unable to conceive a baby. So, when Ned was given full custody of Kristina, Skye latched on to Ned and his daughter. When Ned and Skye found out they were not in fact related, they embarked on a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Alexis went in disguise as the Quartermaine butler to get closer to Kristina. When Skye found this out, she tricked Alexis into revealing herself. Alexis then set out to prove Ned and unfit father by hiring a woman to claim he had sexually assaulted when he was Eddie Maine. But the truth came out that Ned had been set up. Ned then sued for full custody of Kristina with Skye's encouragement, but he eventually dropped the suit. To get away from the Q's, Skye moved out of the Quartermaine mansion and into the Lake House.

Soon, Skye's privacy would be invaded when Luke Spencer decided to hide out there when he was hiding from the cops. They soon became friends and even went into business together. Luke and Jax were in pursuit of the Dead Man's Hand. Because she still had feelings for Jax she tricked Luke and gave Jax one of the cards. Skye was less than happy to find out he was involved with Sam McCall.

Luke wanted to open up a casino on the Haunted Star. When he found money on the boat, Faith claimed it as hers. So, she became partners with Skye, Luke and Sam. But Luke finally came back to Port Charles in the search of a sunken treasure that both the Cassadines and the Quatermaines were after. The night that the treasure was to be auctioned off at the Port Charles Hotel, a fire broke out. They were all trapped when Skye found Luke unconscious in a closet. She revived Luke and they made it back to where everyone else waited for a helicopter to be rescued. Luke and Skye had a passionate kiss when they thought one of them might not make it. But when they both ended up surviving, they went back to ignoring their romantic feelings towards each other.

When Edward acted senile to get out of being held liable for the hotel fire, Skye and Luke hid him at the Lake house. Later it was discovered that the Quartermaines were not responsible for the fire.

Skye soon started being stalked by a mysterious blond woman. She began to believe that Laura Spencer was after her because of her burgeoning relationship with Luke. But it was soon revealed that Heather Webber was Skye's mysterious stalker.
