BuzzsugarThere's something familiar and welcoming about seeing Cox on screen again as Jules.
The Futon CriticI can't get over how great it is to have Courteney Cox back doing comedy. She brings a vulnerable, sweet edge to what could easily be a neurotic, overprotective basket case of a character...
TV SquadWhat really matters here are the jokes, the tone and the cast. Cougar Town delivers on all of those levels.
Cougar Town follows the life of recent divorcée Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox). Jules runs a successful business, has the best friends, and a great son. But when it comes to relationships, she has a lot to learn. However, the more Jules puts herself back out there, the more she discovers that the only way to find yourself, is to let yourself go. After all, you only get one chance to experience your 20s. Even if it’s when you’re 40 something.
I’ve always been surrounded by very, very strong women—my mother, my sister, my wife—and I always wanted to write something that would both honor them and take advantage of their stories. That’s not the first thing you’d associate with a 32-year-old man with a habit of quoting monster movies, but there you go. I love that our show is about a women confidentially and honestly discussing aging, dating and life, and if I can promise you anything it’s that we won’t pull any punches and gloss over some of the uglier, harsher truths. And also, it’ll be funny. There’s a long, wonderful tradition of strong, middle-aged women driven comedies, and I think Jules Cobb is a worthy addition to the pantheon. If nothing else, she’ll make my mom, my sister and my wife proud.
