The Fall 2013 Season Premiere of Dancing with the Stars kicked off in all its glittery glory with stars from stage, screen, sports, science, the Jersey Shore and more. Here’s a rundown of fun from Week 1.
Top Dance of the Night: Score-wise, it was Glee star Amber Riley’s cha cha with partner Derek. Bruno called her the “tigress of Season 17.” The dance had Carrie Ann bowing and left Len “palpitating, perspirating (we think he meant “perspiring) and flatulating (we think he meant… oh, never mind). Anyway, check out the dance that had the judges losing control and doling out 9s:
Bruno’s Creepy Moment: It didn’t take long. When Brant Daugherty of Pretty Little Liars fame ended his cha-cha, Bruno said, “That was a sizzling teaser of things to come. Plenty of hot morsels I’m waiting to taste.” The creepiness continued when he told Leah Remini that he wants her twerking next time out. Embrace the awkwardness below:
Name-Calling Incident: There was some question as to whether Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi should be addressed as “Nicole” or “Snooki.” Tom Bergeron cleared all that up by suggesting she go as "Snicole." Catchy!
In Search of Kelly Kapowski: Before she was a showgirl on the big screen, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren was Saved by the Bell for many years on TV. Her partner, Val, remembers the show well. He had a big time crush on one of the stars. Unfortunately, it wasn’t his partner. Thankfully, it wasn’t Screech either.
Did Carrie Ann Cry?: Yes, yes she did. Valerie Harper was diagnosed with terminal cancer not too long ago. That didn’t stop her from attacking the disease and attacking the dance floor. Valerie’s foxtrot with Tristan can’t help but bring a smile to your face and, in Carrie Ann’s case, a tear to the eye. Check out the reaction from the judges:
Celeb Sightings: “OMG! Jenny from the Block is in the House!” This was a tweet sent by Christina Milian when she realized J-Lo was in the front row. Tears were flowing from Sharon Osbourne in the audience after her baby boy Jack’s tango. Ozzy looked happy, too. We think. Gleeks rejoice! There were many members of TV’s Glee cast cheering on one of their own. Lucy Hale was also there to cheer on her Pretty Little Liars pal, Brant Daugherty. Who did you spot in the crowd? Let us know in the comments below.
Fan Favorite: Hands down, Bill Nye the Science Guy had the crowd on his side more than any other star. He did his cha cha to the theme from Weird Science. The judges channeled their inner-Chet with some harsh criticism. Perhaps they would have liked it more if Bill wore a bra on his head a la Gary and Wyatt. Carrie Ann did call him the heart of the show though and he was the most buzzed about dancer on Facebook. See why:
The Quotes Are In
Harshest Comment: Len (on Bill Nye’s cha cha): “It was like being waxed. It was painful while it happened and lovely when it was over.”
Most Inspirational: Valerie Harper: “It’s good to be alive. And it’s even better to be dancing.”
Best Back-and-Forth: Bruno: “I felt something. I don’t know what it was, but I definitely felt something.
Bill Engvall: “It might have been gas.”
You Have to Hear it (and See It) to Believe It: Len (on Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi): “You’re like a little pocket rocket.” See the fallout:
