Julianne Hough was in the house! The two-time Dancing with the Stars champ enjoyed the ballroom from a different vantage point as she took a seat between Bruno and Carrie Ann as a guest judge. She faired very well and didn’t try to escape from Bruno’s flailing critiques nearly as often as Len. Now, onto the highlights:
Dance of the Night: Three teams scored a total of 27 from the judges, but we were partial to the tango from Team Amber. It wasn’t the fastest number of the night, but the classic feel was enough to produce chills. Julianne didn’t even need the 10-dollar bribe from her brother, Derek, to sing the praises of the dance. See why:
Comeback of the Week: Jack Osbourne had to deal with an admittedly cranky Cheryl Burke during rehearsals, but they came together to kick off the night in fine fashion. Their quick quickstep was enough to get trip 8s from the judges. Jack was determined to stay on the night of his first anniversary with his lovely wife. And he did!
No Shirt, No Problem—Well, Some Problems: Brant opted to heat up his salsa with Peta by going shirtless halfway through the dance. The ladies loved it. Well, most of them. Carrie Ann said his bare upper body helped reveal the flaws in his salsa moves. Julianne also thought the routine was a little loosey-goosey. Nevertheless, she thought it was awesome when Brant took off his shirt mentioning that she is, indeed, single now. By the way, Corbin Bleu also went shirtless for his paso doble. Check it out:
Bruno’s Stand-Up Routine: The man simply couldn’t remain seated during his flailing critique of Leah and Tony’s cha cha. He called her “Leah from the Block” and said she was “channeling J-Lo” with all of her attitude. He also popped up to express disbelief after Julianne disagreed with his assessment of Leah’s footwork. Apparently, their differing viewpoints had something to do with shoes.
Celeb Sightings and Stare-Downs: Sex and the City's Kristin Davis was in the ballroom cheering on her longtime friend Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, who had an interesting rehearsal exercise where she had a major stare-down with partner. Yes, Val had stars in his eyes. Well, one star, at least. See their stare-down:
The Quotes Are In:
Close Call: Tom (to Julianne after Bruno’s over-the-top critique of Elizabeth’s Argentine tango): “Is it creepier when he’s right next to you like that?”
Self-Evaluation: Brant (after Brooke asked about his injuries): “I’m a mess.”
Pickup Artist: Julianne (after Brant’s shirtless salsa): “I think I told you this, but I’m single now.”
Running with the Bull: Tom (after Bruno likens Corbin’s paso doble to being as powerful as a young bull): “And Bruno knows bull.”
Channeling Len: Bruno (after Bill’s samba): “It thought I was going to wet myself. I really did. It had everything you can wish for in a samba except timing and rhythm.”
Bye-Bye, Valerie: She entertained and inspired anyone and everyone who saw her perform. It simply didn’t matter what Valerie Harper did on the dance floor, the fact that she was even out there at all was enough to bring a smile to the face or a tear to the eye. Not even a diagnosis of terminal cancer could keep this courageous lady from following the message of the song featured in her Viennese waltz with Tristan. Their crowd-pleasing dance to “Carry On” got guest judge Julianne Hough a little teary-eyed. Valerie Harper may have left the ballroom, but her inspiring message will certainly carry on. See her goodbye:
Next week it's time for the stars to recall their most memorable year. This is typically the most emotional night of the season, so get ready to break out the hankies. Until then, take one more look at all of this week's dances:
