Goodbye, Ashley. Goodbye, Macy.
The first cut was a deep one—season 9 concluded its first week with a swift double elimination. The judges had been pretty tough out of the gate, and Michael Irvin, Kathy Ireland, and Tom DeLay all faced harsh words and low scores. But they survived the gauntlet.
The evening began with Kelly & Louis repeating their awe-inspiring Viennese Waltz from the night before. After seeing her parents' reaction to her glamorous, graceful dance, Kelly said she's come to realize that, considering all the "naughty bad things" she had done over the years, this was the only way she could shock them.
When the knife came down, the two pairs cut were Macy Gray & Jonathan Roberts, and Ashley Hamilton & Edyta Sliwinska. Although it may have seemed like a short ride to us, Macy and Ashley spent over a month in dance practice, and are walking away with ballroom training from two of the best. But first, a stop at Jimmy Kimmel Live, and then off to "the losers club."
Special moments:
We were introduced to the Losers' Club—the select group of celebrities who, over the 8 previous seasons of Dancing with the Stars, were eliminated in the first week.
Sean Kingston performed "Face Drop."
Macy's Stars of Dance presented a spectacularly impressive performance of "Circle of Life" from 41 members of the Broadway cast of The Lion King.
The pro dancers did a heartfelt tribute to Patrick Swayze.

(re: Macy) "I can't tell if she was truly disappointed or not. It almost seemed like she was relieved. Am I seeing things?" – Karl
(re: Ashley) "I'm sad to see him go but am not surprised. Too bad for Edyta too, I love watching her dance and seeing what she's wearing (or not wearing)." – Meg
