Week 9 – The Semi Finals
photos from this episode
Chock full of dances tonight. Each team performed a Ballroom dance as well as a Latin. And in the Latin, the celebrity was required to let go of their partner and do a solo. Plus, each pair performed their "Knockout" dance—the dance they picked and rehearsed in case they got into a dance-off in a double elimination. They avoided that challenge, so now they had to present it here—under full scrutiny, for scores.
The night started off with a small disaster. In addition to what seemed like a nervous and distant performance, Donny seemed to stumble on Kym's long dress, losing his footing numerous times. The judges gave him three 7s, which some in the DWTS message boards think was pretty generous.
Kelly and Louis had a mediocre start too, with three 8s for their Rumba. The judges however, while not wowed by this dance, expressed their love and appreciation for her and her journey. Kelly was dealing with the loss of a pet, and she couldn't quite channel the "sense of eroticism" that Bruno was looking for. Ah, Bruno.
The rest of the night, however, was one impressive dance after the next. Every team scored three 9s, except for Carrie Ann knocking a point off of Donny's Samba. Oh, and except for Mya, who got a 29 on her knockout dance and another perfect 30 for her Salsa!
This is Donny's second week in a row with the lowest score. And someone is going home tomorrow. It's up to the voters now...
Top Three Scores
Mya & Dmitry (Waltz: 28) + (Salsa: 30) + (Cha Cha Cha: 29) = 87
Joanna & Derek (Viennese Waltz: 27) + (Cha Cha Cha: 27) + (Salsa: 27) = 81
Kelly & Louis (Rumba: 24) + (Quickstep: 27) + (Cha Cha Cha: 27) = 78
Highlights of the night:
Mya & Dmitry once again scored a perfect 30. Their Salsa was complex and spicy, and no one in the ballroom could take their eyes off Mya's solo. ¡Brava!
Gilles Marini giving Donny Osmond advice on how to dance an impressive tango. How did he get his 10s? "I wanted people to feel uncomfortable when they're watching me on the dance floor."
Comments from He Said/She Said
"I feel AWFUL for Kelly. We've seen how much she dotes on those dogs, brings them to rehearsal (much to Louis' chagrin, at times), and one died? So proud of her for keeping a "this show must go on" mentality. Her Rumba RULED in spite of this, and she earned that score of 24." -- Karl
"Mya got dissed by Carrie Ann! Potential for 10s but she gave her a 9. Totes disagree. Who's with me?" -- Meg
