S20 E11 Week 9: The Semi-Finals

05/11/15 | TV-PG | CC

The competition was neck-and-neck as Dancing with the Stars season 20 went The Semi-Finals with each of the four remaining couples performing two full routines including the Viennese Waltz, Argentine Tango, Paso Doble, Contemporary and Quickstep. Once again, our hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews welcomed us back to the ballroom and judges Carrie Ann InabaLen GoodmanJulianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli were on-hand to critique the performances. And the pressure was on, because only three couples would move forward to the Finals, meaning someone would be eliminated in the Semi-Finals Results Show!

• Performing first in the Semi-Finals, Rumer Willis and her partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy had a lot to live up to following their perfect night in Week 8: America's Choice Night. So was their Viennese Waltz up to the task? Like last week, they kept it classic, even with the 50 Shades of Grey theme. Once again, the judges loved it, but there was a little more wiggle room for her competition to make their move this time.

• They've been a bit of a dark horse this whole season, so Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess were looking to solidify their place in the Finals with a strong performance in their Viennese Waltz. Their routine was lyrical and flowing, which had the judges and the crowd excited. Even more exciting, Noah proposed to his beautiful girlfriend Jamie and she said YES!

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker have been a dynamic duo known for their incredibly synching and quick footwork, but they had to demonstrate some emotion with a Contemporary routine. And not only did they bring the emotion, but they didn't lose the dancing, either!

• Next up, Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin once again partnered with Sasha Farber while her regular partner Derek Hough continues to heal from his foot and ankle injuries. Their Quickstep brought some fast and frantic footwork that had the judges and the crowd on their feet.

• For the first ever Judges' Dance, Rumer and Val took on Bruno's challenge of a Contemporary Fusion routine to Swan Lake. Bruno was as dramatic and outrageous as a coach as he is a judge and the concept was as daring and bold as he is. The other judges, and the crowd, were bowled over.

• Next, Carrie Ann brought a fiery Paso Doble for Noah and Sharna that really evoked Noah's journey. It was a bullfighting battle and an incredibly powerful performance that earned Noah and Sharna their first perfect score of the season!

• Julianne decided to challenge Riker and Allison with an Argentine Tango for their Judges' Dance. Not only that, she performed WITH them! Once again, they brought the power and the precision that had the other judges thrilled.

• For the final Judges' Dance, Len worked with Nastia and Derek on their Viennese Waltz. Knowing how important it was to both himself and Len, Derek elected to dance despite his injury. The dance, a tribute to Len's own life and memories of dance, was lyrical and poetic. And if there were any dry eyes left in the house after such an emotional night in the ballroom, they were feeling misty when Len himself stepped out onto the dance floor for the final few steps with Nastia.
