Melissa Rycroft's Thoughts on Week 8 and the Trio dances

By Melissa Rycroft May 10, 2013

Welcome Week 8! I can’t believe we are already eight weeks into the competition! It seems like yesterday we just started! And this is also the week of the Trios….Let’s start breaking it down.

Zendaya & Val Chmerkovskiy – Foxtrot – (28) How adorable was she this week during rehearsals?! And how adorable was this Foxtrot? I swear, she makes it look too easy, because trust me, it’s not!  She dances with an effortlessness that none of the other competitors have, not to mention technique that rivals the best as well. This dance should have gotten all 10’s, but that doesn’t usually happen to the couple that dances first. Oh well. Not to speak too soon, but I can’t imagine a Semi Finals this season without Zendaya...

Zendaya & Val Chmerkovskiy & Gleb Savchenko – Salsa – (30) What a HOT HOT HOT trio! Pheww!! A Zendaya sandwich surrounded by Gleb and Val – yummy! This Trio was everything that I thought it would be. Bringing Gleb into the pair did nothing but make Zendaya look that much better – she can keep up with the pros!

Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd – Tango – (21) I think Sean has improved sooooo much from the beginning of the season. I know he may not have the raw talent of a Kellie Pickler or a Jacoby Jones, but Sean has such a sweet charm to his dancing. He has really been fighting to stay in this competition week after week.  He’s never had a free pass, or a high score to rely on. To make it to the Semi Finals next week, Sean is really going to have to have some magic up his sleeve in the trio round, and all those folks of Bachelor Nation will need to pull through!

Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd & Sharna Burgess – Jazz - (21) First time for a Jazz Trio, and the wonderful Sharna is back! Unfortunately, this was not the dance I think Sean was hoping for to redeem himself from the first round. It was a bit discombobulated....and disconnected....and seemed a little unpolished. And that is such a shame because I was really rooting for them this round. Looks like those Bachelor Nation fans will really have to do their work to do this week...

Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff – Viennese Waltz – (27) Jacoby is known for his charisma, his charm, and his ability to bring fun to the dance floor. And tonight, he added grace to his resume. I was so surprised to see Jacoby excel in the Waltz; not that I thought he wouldn’t be able to, but from what we’ve seen so far, the fast, upbeat routines seem to be his forte. Oh but how wrong I was!

Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff & Cheryl Burke – Paso Doble - (25) Woofta! Another hot trio! Heck, I want Karina and Cheryl to dance around me! This dance was incredible! Cheryl was the perfect addition to this pairing. What a night Jacob had: he started strong and he ended even stronger! And he even pulled the Emmitt move at the end – love it! Ummm...but what the heck on the score of 25?!? Way underscored!

Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson – Foxtrot – (24) So much better than I thought it would be after watching their rehearsal footage. Ingo has an incredible ability (thanks to his acting background) to transform himself into the characters needed. He really nailed the personality needed, and you know what, his technique wasn’t bad either, This dance was really nice to watch; I found myself smiling my way through it. Being in the bottom 2 last week, this couple has some work to do to make it to Semi Finals, but they definitely can!

Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson & Lindsay Arnold – Jive – (24) Cute routine! The Jive is a hard dance to do – especially for a male. I don’t think his Jive technique was superb, but this dance is exactly what it should have been: fun. He was wearing a pink sweater vest and plaid pants...and he owned it! Ingo has nothing to lose and everything to gain, and that’s how he danced tonight. Nicely done.

Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough – Viennese Waltz – (28) Bea-u-tiful! Absolutely stunning. I’m not sure what else I can even say. This dance was definitely the best of the night, and one of Kellie’s best dances ever. It felt like everything around Kellie and Derek just paused while they danced, and they seemed like they were just skating on ice. Kellie has been a front-runner in this competition from Day 1, and she has done nothing but prove her place in this competition since then. In my opinion, she should have just Waltz’d her way into Semis....

Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough & Tristan MacManus – Paso Doble – (27) Whhoooaaa! Not what I expected from sweet little Kellie Pickler! That Paso Doble was one of the best Pasos that I ‘ve seen! Music was great, choreography was great, and Kellie was great!!! What a statement that they made tonight! Len was completely wrong about the dance – there was a ton of Paso Doble in there.....think he put his cranky pants on tonight! Magnificent.

Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas – Argentine Tango – (29) I LOVE the Argentine Tango!! Love Love Love! And boy, did Aly rock this Tango! Having a gymnastics backround, being sharp comes easy to her – but for her to add the attitude needed for the Argentine Tango was very unexpected! She has certainly broken out of her shell this season!

Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas & Henry Byalikov – Jive – (27) First off, so excited to Henry back in the ballroom!! He danced in the trio with me and Tony, and so glad he gets to do it again this season! You know, there is no stopping Aly right now! This little girl is such a fighter, and she’s growing stronger with each dance! What a fun Jive and what a great night for Aly!

And so there ends another night of competition. Although the leaderboard shows Sean and Ingo at the bottom, don’t make any predictions too soon – those fan bases can do crazy things sometimes – especially at this point in the competition. Semi Finals are right around the we’ll see who makes it through!
