Q. Why did you want to do the show?
A. I love to dance, perform and have fun, so when the opportunity came up, it was a no brainer. I am a huge fan of the show and have watched it for years, so I can't wait to start rehearsing. I love working hard and I love a new challenge, and even though I know it won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination, I am so excited to try something new!
Q. Which dance style do you think is most "you"?
A. Whenever I compete, I am very intense and serious, but I also like to have a lot of fun, so I’d have to say the salsa would be most me. It takes a lot of practice and hard work, which is something I am used to, but it also seems like it is a lot of fun.
Q. What do you think is your biggest handicap to overcome if you’re going to win?
A. My biggest handicap would have to be the fact that I have never actually danced in front of people (not even a hundred, let alone millions!) and that is a little nerve wracking. I have obviously performed in front of millions of people for gymnastics, but I had years and years of practice before the Olympics. I am definitely not used to dancing and going outside of my comfort zone on live TV, especially with only a few weeks of practice.
Q. Do you have a "dancing" hero (pro dancer or other dancing star)? Are any former DWTS stars an inspiration to you?
A. Shawn Johnson! She is one of my teammates and I love her. She was awesome on the show and she has always been someone that I have looked up to.
Q. Is there a particular dance/dance style that you most fear?
A. To be honest, I guess all of them. I have no dancing experience besides my floor routines and dancing around my house or hotel rooms with friends, so it is all going to be very new for me.
