Running to Stand Still
Season 1 | Episode 106 | Aired 11/06/2004
At a school production of "Little Red Riding Hood," Lynette clashes with the organizer, Maisy Gibbons, who has rewritten the ending of the fairy tale to spare the wolf's life. Because Lynette is only signed up to take tickets, Maisy nixes her idea to keep the play traditional. When Lynette's status rises after she volunteers to do the costumes, she forces a vote on whether they should "just kill the damn wolf." The other mothers side with Lynette, to Maisy's fury. She then threatens to boot Lynette's twins from the play if she can't deliver the costumes in time. To get everything done, Lynette turns to her children's Ritalin, which gives her the energy not only to finish the costumes, but to clean her house from top to bottom. When Maisy dismisses the coonskin cap Lynette slaved over as "roadkill," it's the last straw. Lynette challenges her to "throw down" and Maisy demurely backs off.
