Designer Bio
We're still not sure how this devoted mother of two small kids is able to make time for writing, green projects and her EM:HE design work...we're happy she can. Just one look at the faces of the kids whose rooms she designs tells us why she does it.
Tracy Hutson has been a stylist and designer since 1999, when she started her own Los Angeles-based design business. In 2003, she became part of the design team on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Through her involvement with the show, Tracy has witnessed first-hand the dramatic impact that living spaces have on the lives of the people who occupy them. Every episode stimulates her naturally philanthropic spirit, and she responds to each family's needs with compassion and enthusiasm. Given her particular zeal for designing children's spaces, she lovingly customizes rooms for the younger family members, adding personal touches that consistently enthrall and enchant.
During Season Two of the show, Tracy found out that she was expecting a child of her own. She gave birth to Oliver in May 2005, an event that would change her career and knowledge of design in inspiring ways. Oliver and mom hit the road for their first season designing together, traveling to help families in need, the presence of her son adding a new dimension to Tracy's work and expanding her love of designing spaces for little ones.
In 2007, Tracy learned she was expecting again. She wanted to create a space for both Oliver and her new baby that was not only environmentally safe but also fun and enjoyable. After the birth of Felix, designing green spaces became her passion. Even with her growing family, she found time to complete her first book titled Feathering the Nest: Tracy Hutson's Earth-Friendly Guide to Decorating your Baby's Room. The book shows families how easy and rewarding it can be to create a green nursery for their babies. In October of 2009, her new home accessory line will be introduced on QVC.
Even though she's juggling motherhood and many upcoming projects, Tracy is looking forward to a brand new season on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. She feels it is an honor to help deserving families in need, and it's something she holds very close to her heart.
