This family helps provide for single parents in need. But the cost is the toll it’s having on the couple’s own home, not to mention their daughter’s health.
This week Ty and the designers descend upon Charlotte, North Carolina, to help out Alisha King and her family. One thing becomes evident to us from the beginning—Alisha understands the importance of having a support system of family and friends during parenthood. After all, she herself became a single mother to son Justin at 15.
A true inspiration, Alisha was able to work several part time jobs and attend college. Her dream to give single parents safe, nurturing and affordable daycare that provides clothing, food, overnight care, mentoring and constant education to the children was realized when she married co-worker Curtis King in 1997. The couple took up new residence in Charlotte, where Alisha opened Step By Step Home Daycare.
Though Alisha and Curtis have been through many financial hardships, we learn that they’ve always managed to give back to their community and extend their daycare service in their home after hours, sometimes free of charge.
However, disrepair and mold in the home is putting their daycare and their daughter Laila’s health in jeopardy. Not only has the girl been sent to the hospital several times with asthma attacks, it makes for an unhealthy environment for the rest of the children when combined with other hazardous conditions within the home.
Watch and cheer along with us as Ty and his designers step in to save the King house and daycare center, so this family can continue providing for other parents in need.
