Augustin Family
Season 6 | Episode 616 | Aired 02/28/2009

A family business born of love and for love is lost in one devastating flood. We know you’ll find this story pulls deeply at your heart-strings. It certainly did ours.

We meet the Augustin family of Keller, Texas who took a pivotal moment in their own family’s life and turned it into their life’s mission—providing love and support to those with a baby born prematurely. “Tiny Works of Heart,” a volunteer photography business begun by Amber Augustin, was inspired by the premature birth of her third child, Lane. Both the challenge of Lane’s birth and the Augustin’s emotional and financial struggles inspired Amber to volunteer her time and talent to photograph the babies born in the N.I.C.U. (neonatal intensive care unit).

Sadly, we learn that many babies born in the N.I.C.U. do not survive—making the time the family has with them all the more precious. To help in such an emotionally trying time, Amber started a free service to capture the parents’ time with their fragile children. Additionally, she finds the time to volunteer with an organization which provides hope, comfort, memories and a sense of “normalcy” to families in these tough times.

Tragically, we discover that on Father’s Day 2007 Augustin’s life was turned upside down by a flood. Raging floodwaters ravaged their home and the photography studio as well, leaving the family with nothing.

It’s a joyful moment for us when Ty and the EM:HE team arrive on the scene to provide a home and new studio to the deserving Augustin family, allowing them to continue their work bringing joy into the lives of so many families affected by premature births.
