Participant Bio

Ryan is a 23-year-old from Appleton, WI, who has a passion to help others but knows he has to first help himself.

Before losing his arm in a car accident, Ryan was already overweight and struggling to keep his weight down. An active young man, he loves football and played the game throughout high school, although he felt like his weight held him back from reaching his full potential on the field. On a foggy night in 2009, Ryan was driving to a friend's house and was broadsided by an oncoming vehicle. He defied the odds and survived, but he lost his left arm.

Since his accident, Ryan has suffered a lack of self-esteem, dropped out of school and become unemployed. Deep down he knows he might waste his second chance at life if he can't get to a healthy weight, but he spends most of his time at home and eating fast food. He admits it is more of a struggle to weigh 410 pounds than it is to have just one arm.

When Chris Powell chooses Ryan to participate in the one-year weight loss journey, a reenergized Ryan knows the transformation specialist will bring out the best in him. Ryan is ready to start training for the biggest game of his life, and with Chris' guidance, to learn to take control of those things he can control.
