5 Times Jessica Huang Was the Best TV Mom

By Micheline Goldstein | May 2nd, 2016

When it comes to celebrating moms, there are lots of great ABC moms to choose from! There's Rainbow Johnson on black-ish, a loving mother and a career woman who's a great role model to Zoey, Junior, Jack, and Diane, Beverly Goldberg from The Goldbergs, a fierce mother who gives everything to her kids, Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, and Eileen O'Neal from The Real O'Neals. But Fresh Off the Boat's Jessica Huang is singular in her devotion to raising Eddie, Emery, and Evan as good Chinese men who love and honor their parents and their heritage, and who better grow up to make a good living as doctors or lawyers!

Check out some of the top reasons we think Jessica is TV's best mom, and don't miss Fresh Off the Boat TUESDAYS 8|7c on ABC!

1. When She Apologized to JJ's Rude Mom (Casey Wilson) So Evan Could Go to JJ's Birthday Party

After getting into a fight over incorrect zippering procedure with a rude mother (guest star Casey Wilson) at the school, Jessica finds out that Helen is Evan's best friend JJ's mother. Evan gets uninvited from his friend's birthday party, so Jessica sucks up her pride and grudgingly apologizes to Helen... only to be told Evan is still not invited to the party. She doesn't let that stop her from bringing Evan to the party anyway! From Season 2, Episode 17, "Doing It Right."

2. That Time She Kicked Lice-Infested Eddie (and Evan!) Out of the House (But Still Risked Getting Lice for Them)

Jessica and Louis are horrified when Eddie gets sent home from school with lice! Instead of letting Eddie spread the lice around, Jessica banishes him from the house, and drops everything to protect their home and the rest of the family from the dreaded insects. She's crushed when her baby, Evan, arrives home with lice, too, but still banishes him to the yard until he can be saved. From Season 2, Episode 18, "Week In Review."

3. When She Took Control of the School Play to Teach Life Lessons

The school play takes a dark turn when Jessica volunteers to direct so that she can teach Evan and Emery the dangers of becoming an actor, instead of a doctor or a lawyer. As long as she's teaching her kids valuable life lessons about success, Jessica is having fun! From Season 1, Episode 12, "Dribbling Tiger, Bounce Pass Dragon."

Raising kids to embrace their Chinese culture in Orlando in the '90s can't be easy, but Jessica is determined to make sure Evan, Emery, and Eddie know everything about where they come from, even if she has to sacrifice watching Melrose Place! When Eddie gets assigned to represent Jamaica for a school project, Jessica marches into the principal's office and demands he switch Eddie to China. From Season 1, Episode 13, "So Chineez."
