After taking an immediate liking to Dr. Cristina Yang, Owen formed a close relationship with the young resident. The two recently married in a private ceremony at the house of Cristina's best friend, Meredith.

OTHER:
Owen joined the Seattle Grace-Mercy West staff after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He continues to suffer from PTSD – a result of his intense memories of the war in Iraq. In an effort to save his girlfriend, Cristina, from hospital shooter Gary Clark, Owen was shot in the shoulder. He survived. Most recently, Owen was named Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace – after Richard resigned.

Actor Bio

An established star of film, television and theatre, Scottish actor Kevin McKidd has made a name for himself playing such varied roles as a doomed drug addict in Trainspotting, a brooding Caesar-era soldier in HBO's Rome and a time-traveling journalist in the NBC drama, Journeyman.

He also co-starred alongside his Grey's co-star, Patrick Dempsey, and Michelle Monaghan in the 2008 romantic comedy, Made of Honor. He also stars alongside Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan in Chris Columbus’ Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which hits theaters in 2010. You can also look for Kevin in the films Bunraku and Catwalk.

Other film credits include Hannibal Rising, Kingdom of Heaven, De-Lovely and Sixteen Years of Alcohol, for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the British Independent Film Awards.  He also starred in Nicholas Nickleby; Hideous Kinky, with Kate Winslet, and Max, with John Cusack. Television credits include The Virgin Queen, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, North Square, The Key, Anna Karenina, Richard II and Looking After Jo Jo.

On stage Kevin has performed in Richard III, Britannicus, for which he won an Ian Charleston Award, and Far Away.

Born and raised in Scotland, Kevin was a member of the Moray Youth Theatre. He became involved in the Bedlam Theatre Company while he was a student at the University of Edinburgh, and it was there that he decided to pursue acting full-time, landing his first leading role in the Wild Cat Theatre Company-produced stage play, The Silver Darlings, for which he won the Gulliver Award.

Kevin currently resides in Los Angeles with his family.
