The big day has arrived! Izzie is so excited about the "perfect" wedding she's planned for Meredith and Derek. Meredith’s just excited to be marrying her McDreamy. Who wouldn’t be? But she’s still not so into the whole girly dream wedding thing. But Mer-Der are doing it for the sake of their sick friend.
Denny’s back. Talk about your wedding crasher! This time he’s gone goth, wearing a full black ensemble. It feels a bit ominous, if not a little creepy. We remember Denny being so much more warm and adorable when he was ALIVE! Bailey and Derek give Izzie an MRI but it’s clean. After another test, where Izzie actually summons the hallucination of Denny, Derek’s able to pinpoint a new brain tumor. It’s inoperable. Our hearts are breaking.
Callie breaks the first rule of the ER—never, ever say it’s “slow.” CUE THE PHONE. A semi has rammed into a bunch of graduation-bound college students. Now they’re bounding into Seattle Grace. It’s bad. George is crushed when every one of his patients dies. When Owen’s patient survives, he tells George that his assist helped save his patient. “Trauma’s a team sport. You don’t have to be a hero, you just have to go where you’re needed.” Nice, Owen. Very nice.
On the Seattle Grace relationship front, Owen tells Cristina his therapy is going well. He tries to take her hand but she pulls away. And Callie finally fesses up to Arizona that she’s broke. Arizona doesn’t care. Who needs pricey restaurants? They’ll just stay in with sandwiches.
Derek gives Meredith a wedding present: Her first solo surgery. Well, it’s sorta solo. The Chief is as proud as a dad at his daughter’s dance recital as he observes over Mer’s shoulder. After the successful surgery, Meredith says to Derek, “What do you say we make this day even better?”
Alex is distraught by Izzie’s situation. He tells Meredith, “I think she’s gonna die on me.” Alex wonders why Meredith isn’t getting ready for her wedding. Meredith replies, “That’s what I came to talk to you about.”
Meredith shows up at Izzie’s hospital room with the wedding gown. She says, “This dress is not for me.” Izzie is crushed. She thinks Meredith is getting cold feet. Then Alex appears at the door dressed in the wedding tux she picked out for Derek. This was always Izzie’s dream wedding. Now, thanks to her friends, her dream is about to come true. Anyone else have chills right now?
Like we said, the big day is here. Only the Mer-Der marriage will have to wait. Izzie is the only beautiful bride in the church today. Cristina is her maid-of-honor. Meredith is Alex’s best man. But Izzie is weak. She can’t make it alone. George leaps into action to walk her down the aisle. Again, chills! Simply describing the ceremony won’t do it justice. So we’re not even going to try. You just have to see it! And when you do, you won’t be able to hold back the tears. Well, we couldn’t.
Back at the hospital, Izzie is upset by her hair loss. Alex says she’ll still be beautiful even when she’s bald. Alex leaves to get some champagne. Izzie talks to Denny one more time. When Alex returns, she tells Denny, "Go away. I want to be alone with my husband." She takes off her scarf to reveal her newly shaved head. "My wife is hot," Alex says proudly. She sure is.
