Season 7:

- Meredith learns she has a "hostile uterus." This is what caused her miscarriage during the shooting.

- Derek starts a clinical trial to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Meredith joins him in the search for a cure because her mother had the disease and she carries the gene for it.

- Meredith is having trouble getting pregnant again. To increase her chances of conception, she starts to take fertility drugs. She is forced to stop when the drugs begin take her vision away. Meredith getting pregnant was not meant to be, but every cloud has a silver lining. Enter baby Zola. A little girl who is getting treated at Seattle Grace and stops crying the instant Meredith picks her up. Derek takes this as a sign that they should adopt her.

- Adele, Richard's wife, has Alzheimer's. She gets into Derek and Meredith's clinical trial when it becomes apparent that this disease is starting to take over. The trial involves giving a group of patients either a placebo or the experimental drug, Adele is a patient slated to get the placebo. Meredith wanted to help Richard so she risks her career by switching Adele's placebo with the experimental drug.
