Meredith is nicknamed Medusa by the new interns because they believe her to be a monster of mythic proportions. Bailey's impressed that her former student has struck such intimidating fear into her charges. Meredith chooses Jo to do the traditional solo intern appendectomy and must bail her out when things go south. Owen later lets the crying intern know that Meredith isn't mean. She's a teacher.
Meredith has pee on her shoe as she drives to work. It's a battle scar from Zola's potty training sessions. She pulls over to help a woman who is trapped under a car at the scene of nasty car accident. Her hospital colleagues are concerned that emotions are clouding her judgment. After all, this woman has similar injuries to the ones that killed Lexie.
Meredith must call on various friends (and interns) to babysit Zola while trying to keep her patient alive. Tension is high in her OR as she struggles to find a tear that's causing a leak. As her patient's blood pressure continues to drop, Meredith finally locates and repairs the tear. She orders her interns to join her in a 30-second dance party. If they don't dance, they're all fired. So… they dance.
Alex tells Meredith that he's looking to grow up. That's why he wants her house. Meredith lets him know that the reason she doesn't want to make the repairs he's requesting is because the marks and scratches he's listed have meanings behind them. The chips on the ceiling are from the Christmas tree they got their first intern year. There are scratch marks on the door jams for both Zola and herself when she was little. Meredith grew up in that house and so did Alex.
Meredith has Derek take a look at a new t-shirt she bought for Zola. It says "World's Best Big Sister" on the front. Even though Meredith still has a hostile uterus, it looks like they are going to have another baby! Meredith is shocked when Derek's sister, Lizzie, rants about how her side of the family was left out of the loop for important family events like their wedding and Zola. She makes an effort to get closer to Lizzie by showing her a picture of the ultrasound before anyone else. Nice.
