Even though his personal life was a mess, Owen's professional life was on the upswing. Richard voluntarily stepped down from his post as Chief of Surgery after a scandal involving his wife and an altered Alzheimer's trial. Guess who was put in his place? Why Owen Hunt, of course. With great responsibility come greater headaches though. Soon after becoming Chief, crisis hits a little too close to home when Henry was rushed to the hospital coughing up blood. Owen needed to assign a doctor to tend to Henry and, at Teddy's request, assigned Cristina to do the surgery. Cristina needed to keep her composure during surgery, so Owen concealed Henry's identity from her. We found out there wasn't anything Cristina could do and Henry died on the operating room table. Owen is forced to make the hard decision NOT to tell Teddy at first. This was because she was in the middle of a bypass surgery and didn't want to risk that patient's life. After everything came out, Teddy blamed Owen for Henry's death. Cristina was furious with Owen for not telling her that the patient was Henry before the surgery. To complicate things, he was still deeply hurt about Cristina aborting their baby. We knew he made the right decision, but it tore him up inside.
