This Place Is Death
Season 5 | Episode 5 | Aired 02/11/09
Suddenly, the smoke monster shoots through the trees and grabs Montand's leg! It yanks him through the jungle as he screams for help! It drags him towards a decaying stone wall with a large gash at a corner. Robert leaps forward and grabs Montand by the arms. Both of them are dragged down into the mouth of the gash, so Jin grabs Robert. It's an epic tug-of-war as they try to pull Montand free of the smoke monster. But suddenly, with a violent jerk, there's a sickening crunch -- and Montand screams. Robert and Jin tumble backwards, and Robert realizes he is holding Montand's dismembered arm! They can hear Montand screaming for help from deep underground inside the gash. Robert goes inside the gash to help, and Rousseau wants to help, too, but Jin stops her. He says with the baby, no, she can't go.

Then Jin hears a strange, loud hum building. He looks around for the noise, and sees the sky start to wash out in a bright light. Rousseau asks what he's reacting to. She doesn't seem to be experiencing it. The flash builds in intensity and FAAZAAM! It's over. Jin is at the same exact place but everyone else is gone. He looks around and sees that the wall is some kind of ancient ruin and is covered with worn, carved symbols. He takes a step towards the gash in the wall and steps on something that cracks. He looks down and sees it's Montand's decayed arm. Jin freaks out and runs off into the jungle back to the beach. As he gets closer, he sees smoke rising up above the trees and heads towards it.

As Jin approaches the campfire, he notices an overturned music box. He looks around and finds two dead bodies. Then he overhears a man and woman shouting. He creeps around the brush and sees Rousseau, still pregnant, pointing her rifle at Robert, who has his rifle pointed at the ground. He implores Rousseau to put hers down. Rousseau says that he's not Robert, that the monster changed him. It made him sick. Robert says it's not a monster but a security system guarding that Temple. He loves her and doesn't want anything to happen to their baby. Rousseau slowly lowers her rifle. But when her rifle reaches her side, he whips his rifle up and CLICK! Pulls the trigger! But it doesn't fire. Robert is surprised. Heartbroken, Rousseau raises her rifle and shoots Robert between the eyes.

Jin tries to stop her, but she whips the rifle towards him and then recognizes him. You disappeared, she says. You're sick, too! You're a carrier! Her expression hardens, and Jin bolts into the jungle as BANG! BANG! Rousseau fires, barely missing him. Jin races through the jungle as Rousseau continues shooting at him. He hears another rumbling hum build, becoming louder and louder. Then --
