Flashbacks:
- After performing surgery, Jack encounters Jacob at the hospital vending machine. Their fingers touch as Jacob hands him a candy bar.

- Young Juliet and her sister Rachel listen to their parents explain they are getting divorced. Their mother explains that just because two people love each other, it doesn't mean they're meant to be together.

Dharma Initiative Time:
- Sawyer tries to talk Jack out of nuking the island. Jack says he's doing it for Kate. Sawyer punches Jack and they begin fighting.

- Juliet stops the fight and tells Sawyer that Jack is right. She changed her mind because she saw how Sawyer looked at Kate. Sawyer and Juliet aren't supposed to be together.

- Phil warns Radzinsky at the construction site that Sayid has returned.

- Phil arrives at the construction site and sees Jack. A firefight breaks out.

- The drill gets pulled into the pit and Jack throws the plutonium core into the hole.

- Everything metal gets sucked toward the hole. Juliet, tangled in chains, is pulled into the pit.

- Juliet is critically injured at the bottom of the hole. She sees Jughead and proceeds to hit it with a rock until the cavern flashes white with an explosion.

Thirty years later...
- Hurley is released from prison and Jacob shares a cab with him. Hurley asks if he's dead, and Jacob explains that maybe Hurley is blessed that he is visited by the people he's lost. Jacob touches Hurley's knee and then gives him Ajira Flight 316 info.

After the Ajira crash:
- Richard, Locke and Ben reach the four-toed statue. Richard says it's where Jacob lives and opens a hidden entryway. Locke and Ben go inside.

- Ilana's party finds Richard at the beach. She asks him what lies in the shadow of the statue and he gives the correct answer in Latin.

- Ilana opens the aluminum crate to reveal a coffin containing Locke.

- Ben and Locke find Jacob, who tells Locke he found his loophole. Ben asks if Locke and Jacob have met before, and Locke responds that they have in a manner of speaking

- Ben, enraged that his devoted work has been ignored by Jacob yet Locke gets the attention, raises his knife and stabs Jacob in the heart. Locke then shoves Jacob into the fire.

How will the future be changed?

How do you think detonating Jughead will alter the future?

ggk1970

I don't think it can change. Scenario 1 (Bomb prevents Incident) - If Jughead prevents the incident and the plane from crashing, as Jack believes, then Jack will never see to it that Jughead detonates, because he will have never heard of the island, so the incident would have never been prevented, and the plane would have crashed. Scenario 2 (Bomb causes incident) - Now, if the detonation is the incident, then there is a loop that has no beginning. Because of a plane crash, Jack eventually got to this point and saw to it that the bomb would be detonated, which ultimately resulted in the crash which brought them to the island in the first place. Had the plane never crashed, incident would never have happened. Had incident never happened, plane wouldn't have crashed. Either way, the future is not changed. The plane still crashes. Judging by the title of the season 6 premier, I am thinking someone has some 'splainin' to do.

Hello All and Others.......I also think that when the bomb goes, Jack, Kate, Hugo, Sayie, Salyer, Sun, Jin, And Locke, will be transported in time so they can get together and Jacob will be brought back because he had put his essence into each one of them as shown in the "Incidence". and that will be Jacob;s Loophole. Also I think the last season will anwser all of our nagging questions, This will a great ending of the Saga , so everyone have Fun and have alot of >Lost

I think we will see the characters (maybe not Locke and those people though) travel even further back in time some how, so we get to see how the island came to be, how jacob and his buddy got there, have the importance of the numbers explained as well as the 4 toed statue, the ruins and the smoke monster. As for what happens in the future, in the last episode they will all be back to boarding flight 815 and arrive safely in Los Angeles and continue on with their lives with the big time loop they just took part in remaining unknown to them.

i don't think it will change anything. i think this is all a huge time loop. it's kind of the beginning of the ending. it don't think they would just go back to the beginning, because then the crash would have never happened.

Replying to the Jacob dog pic.: The dog is wearing a black tie, (with white underneath) or seems to be, this is a very reccuring theme. I'll let you look for them. Thank for the pict., so I can blow it up. Let me just say that the dogs and birds in this show are not arbitrary AT ALL. Even hearing the birds (I think represent someone or something)...esp. in the last eps.

The future can be changed because the original timeline has already been altered by the actions of Jacob in the past, creating an alternative timeline. We saw Jacob resurrect Locke and he was probably responsible for different events in the Oceanic Six lifes which led them to take the Oceanic Flight 815 and be brought on the island. The island is a spacetime anomaly that caused most ot the crew of the Widmore's freighter to become mad and kill themselves when they were near the island and Desmond's consciousness to experience time shifts between the two timelines and he would have died if he had not had a constant, Penny, present in the two timelines. Daniel Faraday had understood it, and when he came back to the island in 1977 to detonate Jughead to destroy the anomaly, he wanted to restore the original timeline. If he had succeeded, the island would not have been here in 2004, the intervention of Jacob would have been cancelled and the plane would have not crashed. I think the island was not destroyed but that all who were on the island in 1977 will have strange dreams and they will finally decide not to take the Oceanic Flight 815. And, if they are not onboard the plane, the island will not be there to get them and the plane will arrive safely at LAX.

Locke was not resurrected- he is in the metal trunk brought to the island in the second crash. The "Locke" you see is Jacob's dark-haired nemesis- the one he talks to on the beach as the Black Rock schooner sails by.

The past cannot change the future for when it does those experiencing it would never have perceived the alternate time line. Which means we couldn't have watched all of the LOST that we have if this was going to work. If the writers make it so that we watched an alternate time line that doesn't now exist that would sort of ruin the show. Would it not?

okay, I'm sorry 2 all of the people who believe that this will work exactly as planed, but I think ur wrong. see I think if setting of the jughead works, it will ruin the show. I think we all agree that one of the main things that drew us in, in the first place was the characters. We were able to watch these, well..."LOST" people face the things that were holding them back, and in most cases, become better people! Lets take Charlie 4 instance, his life really sucked, but in the very first season he began 2 turn it around. Yes, he died, but he died a hero, not a junkie. he also met claire which he says is the best moment of his life! Sure, if the jughead worked people like him would be alive but there lives wouldn't mean anything, and what about destany (srry can't spell) I'm looking forward 2 a season where yes of course i hope everyones alive, but i also hope the show will keep the same feel as it used 2.

I'm with Miles! This is and always will be the incident that Chang is talking about in the Dharma-films. Why? Very simple: Chang(Candle, etc. in he films) can't use his arm in those films,it just hangs there. During the drilling into the pocket of electromagnetic energy, when everything goes down, Chang's hand gets stuck and Miles helps him out. If Jack and co had changed something by interfering the dharmafolk in their drilling that would probably not have happened Well, it did and thus is this The Incident! And all this is probably the reason why Dharma has to push that button. Desmond was really saving the world! And when he used the failsafe key he detonated the bomb and negated the electromagnetic energy. They've always said that because Desmond almost didn't push the button on September 22nd Oceanic 815 crashed. The electro magnetism caused the plane to crash. Well, what if it didn't? The island could've been in another time than the plane and because of the electromagnetic energy a time-window opened up and made the island visible for a while and our Oceanic 815 flew through it. The incient happens as it happened. The button has to be pushed. Desmond almost doesn't. Oceanic 815 lands on the island. They will probably show us a possible future, but I'm sure it'll all go back to the island. And....the skeletons....they're bound to be one of the Losties. So they'll have to be in the past, which means the bomb doesn't ill them.

DeathByButtons

The skeletons in the pit are the people Ben and the others killed with the gas when Ben made the decision to leave the Dharma Initiative and join the others. I sincerely doubt the plane was suddenly in another timeline when it crashed. The established statement about Desmond's almost failing to push the button makes more sense - it was at exactly the right date and time, so why question that?

I'm not sure if the future will change at all, instead maybe detonating Jughead transports Jack, Kate, Sawyer, John, Hurley, Gin, Sun, Sayid, etc. back to the time of the Black Rock where they become "The Others". Perhaps we will see how Richard's group, the crew of the Black Rock, cope with being "Lost" on the island, battling that times version of "The Others" (Jack, Kate, Sawyer, John, Hurley, Gin, Sun, Sayid). Probably no chance of this, but interesting idea?

Jate2BFate

It will create two timelines for the Oceanic 815 passengers. Both will lead to the same outcome regardless of path...a showdown on the island. One of the timelines will have vastly different futures for the characters than we'd seen before..perhaps Sayid and Nadia are married with children, Kate is in prison, Juliet is happy with her sister. Sawyer is with Cassidy and Clementine. Jack never connects with Claire. Aaron is put up for adoption. Locke is still paralyzed. Etc. Not necessarily the desired outcomes they'd have hoped for. In the end through differing situations they all end up where they were before though on the island supporting either Jacob or the MIB fighting for control of the island.

Hey fellow St'orks! Just had a quick read over the last day or two, so just quick responses on my way through. FF - I'm now 3 weeks behind and don't find myself caring. I meant to catch up online, but haven't done so yet. Some of you think it's 'finally' going somewhere. Is it worth my time to catch up and reassess my opinion? V - left me a little cold this week. After the premier I was excited for the show, but this was a little dull. Yes, Anna is definitely creepy. Never did think Jane Badler was all that attractive, but what do I know? I like Morena's more subtle approach. Dune- Loved the first 3 books of Frank's Dune, but they got worse and worse (and weirder) as they progressed. I haven't read Brian's books, much as I didn't read the sequel to Gone with the Wind, or any of the later books in some series where the original author has 'co-authored sequels' or turned them right over to another author...it just doesn't sit well with me when that happens. Sanctuary - is on our version of SyFy channel, but at an awkward time that makes remembering to watch, or even being able to watch, awkward. I did catch the last 15 minutes of an episode by accident and can't say I was impressed, but admit it's not fair to judge based on what little I saw. Must remember to watch online, unfortunately they only keep one episode up at a time, for one week following the show. BSG - if I were going to start renting and watching, should I start with the series or the prequel that came after the series first. Does it matter? Will watching the prequel frst ruin the series for me?

Hey,,,,I think that in the future will changed with Jack being the Zen like leader of the Island... I also noticed in the start of ' Incident' when the man in black came into picture, the pictue was framed to show what seems to be another statue in the backgound , there's sort of a bush in front of it.....look and see for yourself.....Also the future will also change for The Dharma folks, When the sub returens it will be loaded with a small army, also with Ben out of 'DI' he will not be able to kill them. This is a good place to enter a'' Battle of the Arrow'' Just a few of the things that comes into thinking will write more later..............Amor e Paz

I think that the Ajira flight will be the course corrector that allows everyone who should be on the island to get back on there. The flashback structure will be about how they ended up on Ajira without the benefit of already having been on the island. I guess the question will then how the "reset" won't feel too much like a retread of S1. Do we really want Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, et al to be exactly in the same mental state as they were in S1? Given that we have one season left, I expect things to move a lot more quickly than they did over the course of S1, where we ended with the opening of the hatch. That means new arcs for our Lostaways. Not quite sure how they're going to handle Sawyer, Jin and Miles but I'm sure somehow they will end up on the Ajira flight also. Desmond will be the anomaly, the constant. He'll probably be back on the island with flashes between the post-Jughead reality and the former one. What is completely unknown is how detonating Jughead changed the island, the Others and the Dharma Initiative. Along those lines, how do the new survivors fit like Elania (sp?) into equation? Another big question that I expect to get answered is how the alternate timeline off the island is addressed. Is Michael still dead? Aaron is not on the island but Claire is. Unless she put him up for adoption in this new timeline, that seems like a gaping plothole. Argh... can we just get to season 6 already?!?

I am reminded of Back to the Future Part 2 - when our heroes Doc Brown and Marty McFly accidentally returned to an alternate 1985 after the villainous Biff changed the past without them knowing. The REAL 1985 did not stop existing, but Doc and Marty were forced elsewhere because of the change. I believe this is what will happen - an ALTERNATE reality will take place where everyone is on board the plane. But because whatever happened happened, all of the people who died from Season 1-5 will HAVE to still die in this alternate timeline - albeit possibly by different means. Meanwhile, back on the island, the Oceanic 5 will have caused the incident - which doesn't destroy the island but is the cause for the Swan Station computer to regenerate the electromagnetic field every 108 minutes. How these 2 timelines will be reconciled, I have no idea. But because Darlton have recreated Season 6 to be a character based season - like S1 - the necessity for the Oceanic passengers to be alive and well off the island is a must. Because I believe that their time on the island makes them into the people they were meant to be - provides them with a means of redemption - which is an underlying theme of the show. Without the island, I don't think they become the people we know and love. But - because whatever happened, happened, eventually there will be a plane crash, people will die, and the people we have come to know and love will emerge.

V: I did not know the original story actually. I had no idea it was based on anything untill after the first episode aired and people were talking about it. However, I have researched it and now I know. I agree that everything was laid out way too fast in the first episode. It was obvious that the V's were not actually good from the second they arrived, but I think they could have waited at least one more episode to reveal that the V's had been living on Earth for years. I would have liked to see more character development, including building the relationship between Alan Tudyk and Elizabeth Mitchell (I sensed some underlying romantic feelings) . I think it would have been more dramatic when he was discovered to be a V in that case. However, after reading the posts from those of you who knew the story, I can understand where you are coming from about needing it to go beyond the original and since they laid everything out they can take it to other places. I will continue to watch it, if only because I have nothing else to watch on Tuesdays. Doll House: I love Joss Wheadon for sure, but I feel like this show isn't up to his usuall standards. I watched half of the first season, and then the end when Alan Tudyk showed up (I am absolutely in love with him) but I don't have much interest in continuing to watch the new episodes BSG: Amazing from begining to end. Nuf said Flash Forward: I actually really enjoy this show. Its similar to Lost but also very different. Its much simpler in many ways, which is good, so I can devote most of my brain to Lost. I like the characters and moral/ethical/philosophical impilcations of knowing the future ( or so called future)

I believe that in the final season, we will see alot of what seem to be flash forwards, but in reality, everyone is in the present and doing fine. We will be wondering how this character got here, or there, and we will see alot of the characters together, because they do know each other, and they do have relationships. They were all in the hospital with Hurley, and Libby, at one time or another. They participated in an experimental treatment (called the Dharma Initiative) in order to get control of their lives, or get over their breakdowns, meeting one day a week. Some, like Hurley, Libby, Ana Lucia, Kate, and Charley, are residents at the Hanso Foundation, but some are outpatients. A mass hypnosis where all the players think they are in this maze of an island, and they have to endure all these scenarios to survive, and ultimately cure themselves. Each person who died, actually got well and left the treatment, maybe one or two of them committed suicide. Near the end, we start to see scenes at the hospital, and Jacob is a doctor, Richard is the hypnotist, the man in black is an orderly.... and the group will be down to the final few, still working through their problems, close to escaping the island that 'represents' the problem, but I can't tell you who. You will just have to guess.

Jack's plan to change the future only half worked. In this new future, the Oceanic Flight 815 will land safely at LAX and all the people - Charlie, Libby, Shannon, Boone, Ana Lucia, Mr Eko...- we saw die on the island will be alive. Jack, Kate, Locke, Sawyer, Sayid, Hurley, Jin and Sun who were touched by Jacob to be part of his plan to defeat the Man in Black will not be on board because they never took this plane at Sydney. The plane never come near the island when Desmond made his mistake because people are brought to the island only if the island wants it to be and Jacob wanted them to come and probably played a role in the differents events that had led each of them to take this flight. The actions taken by the Oceanic Four at the Dharma time only shed light on different facts : they explain how Ben joined the Others, why people had to wear biohazard suits when Desmond arrived on the island, why children born of the island die and how the statue of Taweret collapsed. After the detonation of Jughead, Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley and possibly Sayid and Juliet will not be rendered to their original life but will be transported back to the alternative timeline the Man in Black created to allow him to kill Jacob and will be reunited with Sun, Richard and the Others and Ilana's team and together they will have to fight the faked Locke, the black smoke monster (who is probably an other form of the Man in Black because he let Locke live to use his body later and and convinced Ben to kill Jacob by using his feelings for Alex) and the mysterious egyptian goddess Taweret who seems to decide who lives or dies on the island and plays a game where Jacob and his Nemesis are only pawns. I think that Jacob's human body is died but his essence is not and he will be resurrected through one of the candidates Ilana was speaking to, Frank Lapidus perhaps ? Finally, the Oceanic Six will be sent back to the timeline they belong to and toward their destiny whatever it may be.
