Okay, I dont know why anyone has thought of this but its the only idea I've come up with about locke that's alive and locke that's in the coffin. The locke in the coffin.....is the real locke. I'm sorry he's dead. But the locke that is alive is the smoke monster. As to why I say this, well the smoke monster can take the form of any human being, when the people carrying locke's coffin came to jacob's cabin they said it had been disturbed and the circle of salt (or whatever it was) was broken meaning that the smoke monster has been impersonating jacob the entire time and can only take the shape of DEAD PEOPLE so thats why the smoke monster locke told richard to tell the real locke he had to die to ger everyone back (which was bogus). This would explain why locke disappeared when the smoke monster judged Ben and why it told Ben to listen to everything locke said. Why would the smoke moster want Jacob dead? well I'm assuming it has something to do with that guy that talked to jacob on the beach and said he'd kill him one day. Maybe he became the smoke monster? who knows, but im pretty sure im right. If anyone has something to contradict me then please do so. I dont want to solve these lost secrets.

Also I think the island may be the Garden of Eden. Remember those 2 dead bodies in the beginning of season 1? Someone even made th sly comment that they were their very own "Adam and Eve", but those bodies will probably turn out to be someone like Bernard and his wife Rose or some obscure characters that stay on the island for ever.

You're wrong about the smoke monster being Locke. What about Christian? or Eko's brother why not have smoke monster when hes disguised to convince some1 on the island to kill or find Jakob early in the show. I know it may seems logical to think it but we all know how tricky the shows creators are .

Hey giys this may be off subject but in season threes episods catch 22 in desmonds flash back the last time he talks to the head monk on the monks desk there a picture in on the left side of the desk. It has the monk in it. Beside the monk is that old woman. Faridays mom. Shes the one that helps them get back. She was the one in desmonds time travel in the third season. Desmond and fariday are connected in so many ways....... Check it out guys!

1. What is the food drop in season 2 was a "mistake" at the Lighthouse sent to the wrong time period? 2. Characters die on the show not when they step off their path but when they find "redemption" from their actions in their life. 3. The plane crash was part of the plan by the smoke monster to get to Locke. He didn't choose Eko or Christian (although he does appear as Christian) because they could not be easily used. Locke's backstories show over and over what an easy tool he is for others (his father, the undercover cop, etc.)

Pipboy, the Bermuda Triangle is not in the Gulf of Mexico. It extends east from Florida out to Bermuda. There is also the Pacific "Dragon's Triangle" which has just as much if not more stigma attached to it as the Bermuda Triangle. It is just south of Japan. Both "triangles" cross the 30 degree latitude line north of the equator, and are pretty much on complete opposite sides of the planet along this line. This location is slightly off from the vacinity that most people think the lost island is located, but with the way time has been bent and twisted on this show, I wouldn't be suprised if space bent a little as well. Space and time are considered to be as one in the science community, why not on a fictional TV show?

"When conjecture, half-truths and myths are pieced together it stops being science fiction and becomes science fact." This is hilarious! Whoever wrote these is awesome. The "Mysteries of the Universe" series is great. The alien theory is very interesting... that statue did only have 4 toes. BAMF111 wrote on here that Jacob and "nemesis," who I like to think of as Jacob's doppelganger, don't age because they are traveling through time, but then what about Richard? He’s not traveling through time… Perhaps “time” does not exist for them, or they are apart from it… just thoughts. Also, nowallsoregen made a very good point about the ash in the cabin. Ash surrounded the temple too, if I recall correctly. This post also got me thinking about this doppelganger/nemesis guy. If he can some how take on or take over the spirit of the dead, such as Locke, I imagine he is also portraying the other dead characters- Christian Shephard appeared to many characters, and Hurley saw many more, Charlie, Ana Lucia, etc. Or was it actually Jacob portraying these dead people since the nemesis was still trapped by the ring of ash? It seems like there are never answers, only more questions when I delve into the world of LOST!

lol nvm how i said no one has thought of this. nice, i didnt read your post but you are along the same lines as what i was thinking about the nemisis guy.

I think Jacob is God himself! In turn the man in black (Nemesis) is Satan. Their relationship represent the eternal struggle between Good and Evil. Good acts with passivity (because God believes in man's ability to overcome) while Evil has the power to shake things up. The killing of Jacob is a short-termed victory, since God, of course, can not be killed. The island may very well be Paradise AND Atlantis at the same time. Rather than being an actual physical presence, the island is an idea; a state of mind; or a physical manifestation of the experiences, dreams and desires of man (hence the flashbacks). The essential question in this TV-show is: "Who are you...really"? Everyone that are killed off in this show, fail to recognize their real purpose or steps off their path (most clearly illustrated by the death of Mr. Eko). The deep implications in this show, I think, are very rare for a commercial and "pop"-product. This show is very much related to the experience of good literature, and one that will stay with you long after you've seen the last second which I pray to God (get it?), will not be condescenting towards the ordiance, but will rather live up to (and hopefully exceed) the expectations that this very thread (and indeed my comment) represent.

You, (DrWiller), and others below hit on the major allusion/motif between good and evil that LOST as certainly explored: Jacob and the "Nemesis." The nemesis could possibly be Esau, Jacob's twin brother, from the book of Genesis. The semantics of Esau and Jacob's story in Genesis, though, cannot be specifically depicted within LOST because of the role of the multitudes of suggested settings i.e. Atlantis. This suggestion does not entice me as much as the enigma surrounding the rivalry between right and wrong. In some ways I agree with Jacob, that if bringing people to the island happens just once and all of which that occurs is "just process," then perhaps there will be no more travelers. I imply here that the Oceanic crash was a part of Jacob's plan. However, I also agree with the Jacob's nemesis, that the process Jacob refers to can be wholly avoided by not bringing anyone to the island. The nemesis also appears powerless, as if he were made to obey Jacob, which again can tie back to the story in Genesis. (Esau was cheated by Jacob who became the founder of the Israelites). At times I really see the nemesis as a true defender of the island and who has had to resort to reincarnating himself through a very long term process in order to regain his power as the island ruler or even island itself. At times it seems that Jacob is of more evil because of his selectivity between those who he deems deserve to live or die. My brain is about to explode and there is much much more that can be discussed.

Ok, I think I need to comment this cause going through all the comments posted in here, I didn't notice anyone talking about this but you may find interesting taking a look to these three "BOOKS": Homer's Illiad and Odissey And...The Holly Bible. Yoo don't need to be a Bible believer, just try to relate characters such as: Ben-jamin, John, Aaron... Jacob! Personaly, haven't read Homer's books, but hope anyone has so he or she can share with this ancious community. And there are many other facts related with books mentioned in all the series for example: Miles, such as the character in "Turn of a screw", book that is on the shelve in the hatch, and the original character has a relation with noticing paranormal prescence give it a try. Also many songs, symbols have kind of a conection with all that happens in LOST, so I'm just giving you all some hints that myself have been discovered in all this "LOSTEN" years. Oh! and remember that more than a chess game is to be like a backgammon game in which you roll the dice, have a number, make a move and try to reach a goal, but if your rival cathces you "alone" he "eats" your piece and you get stucked until you roll the dice again and try to get out, but you'll have to start from all the way "behind", and you have white and black sides, rembember John teaching Walter? so... concluding, every detail COUNTS!!!! sorry if I miss-spelled any word or phrase, I'm catching up again my english after many years! Finally... you know what?... GET LOST!!!!!

There is way to much to say about the things that have been posted here. The over all thought behind this segament is pretty cool and informative. I think that every single fan of Lost should also read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King (as well as everything else he has done). I am currently on my fifth or sixth time through that series and am still finding different connections and ways to consider all the implications supplied with in. I believe that Lost will be the same way. I have only been watching the show for the last year and am working my way through the series for the second time before this final season begins. I just think that once it is over everytime you consider the "Big Picture" of Lost you will find many new things to think about. And that is just one of the numerous things that make this show so Great.

I think because the island is special, Jacob and the other guy are like two protectors of it. Jacob thinks that humans should be allowed to live there and the other man doesn't. That is why he was so angry when "the Black Rock" was arriving at the island. The man says "it always ends the same" meaning when they come they destroy and corrupt. Jacob says "it only ends once, the rest is just progress." I believe he is referring to Jack and his companions. He touches them, bringing them all to the island for a specific purpose. I think Jacob is trying to change things. If you follow carefully the instructions given to Locke in moving the island, it is clear that Jacob told HIM to move the island. He doesn't do so until the middle of the fifth season. When HE does it, the island stops moving through time and they get stuck in the 70s. Jack comes and drops the bomb down the shaft. Jacob wants this to happen, because he wants to change something, he doesn't want "things to always end the same." Right before Jacob gets thrown into the fire he says "they're coming." I believe it's because he finally achieved what he was after through the bomb and Jack and them. Whatever Jack achieved by exploding that bomb, must fit in with Jacob's purpose. I have no idea if this made sense. I tried to explain it in the best way I could. Remember what Miles said people - Daniel Faraday has never been wrong before. It is possible to change things. Jacob believes this. The other man does not.

does anyone else see the similarities between Alvar Hanso and Jacob--not that they look exactly alike, but the blue eyes and lighter look to his face and hair one is gray , the other more blond but their is some kind of similarity. The same with Gerald DeGroot and the darker haired man on the beach. Again--not that they look alike but there is a similarity -- the darker, curlie or thicker hair, not sure about the eyes but just a darker sort of look. Hanso like Jacob. DeGroot like the man on the beach.

Im more worried about the government and what their up to then these "Secret organizations" cause the government have more power then anyone. They would be the only ones to even have communcation with any lifeform outside earth giving the fact that they are the only ones who've explored far enough out there. Who knows what the heck goes on with the Military, who knows what NASA sees in outerspace, if they saw an alien I doubt they'd tell us.

Nooo... Dharma was controlled by Jacobs nemesis and Jacob controlled The Others. Jacob is trying to save the future without an overuse of technology because he believes that's what eventually led to the extinction of humanity(he's from that period, far in the future). His nemesis(he is from that period as well) believes using advanced tech earlier will help them prevent the future they're from. In essence Jacob, his nemesis and the other scientists from the future we have yet to see, are all time travelers coming back in time, using the temple(super advanced AI computer) to change time periods and location, including that of the island itself.

gypsybell

Wow Brothershaft! I think you may be spot on. I believe it is either as you describe it or Jacob and his nemesis are super beings from another planet (God-like beings)… who are playing with humanity. Jacob does seem 'for' preserving us, while the other guy seems to think we are little nothings to be destroyed at his whim. It does make sense because Lost has evolved around time shifting technology - although the ‘supernatural’ aspects of some episodes are a bit baffling in some ways. I disagree with some posters who seem to think this 'revelation' will ruin this new season. I think the writers have much more to reveal and many more surprises in store for fans. I also do not believe that Jacob was destroyed in the last season - no way. He was much too powerful. He welcomed being knifed by 'Ben' and even encouraged him to attack. Anyway, I am really looking forward to the new season! I love this show!

I know the military has weapons that would blow this earth up, lasers and such, like the one the U.S Built it's 270 lasers in one, and it can unleash more power then the sun. I doubt any secret organization can overthrow the government, because the military IS the government as well and with weapons like those...yeah unlikely...

I think Jacob represents White(Good) and the other guy on the beach with him is black(Evil), Somehow the other guys(Black) spirit was locked in the cabin & someone moved the ash and let him out, He then used Richard to tell John Locke to Sacrifice himself. His spirit has taken the form of John Locke. The man in Black has munipulated all these people like chess pieces all through time to kill Jacob, But Jacob knew his plan all along and has also used all these people like chess pieces., Check., Jack will know he is fake because of the shoes. I think that Jacob and his other are from another time in the future. Maybe not quite about the whole technology thing but they are arguing about something. The reason they dont age is because they time travel. Like Faraday, when he told her not to go back to the island. And the reason his other couldnt kill him, is like Faraday said, they cant die in the past, so his other had to find a loop whole, which was, somehow send Locke before he died to kill Jacob in the time after he died, thats why Locke was dead in the container. The Locke that killed Jacob was a Locke from the past

OBVIOLOGIST

I think you may have something confused, Faraday did not say that a person cannot die in the past. what he said was that even if you go back in time, it is still your present, and you can always die in your present. that is why Juliet died in the last episode (presumably) of season 5, even though it was the past, it was still her present.

I think this is very interesting?? Jeremy Bentham designed something called panocticon which is a type of prison building that allow the observer to observe all prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell whether they are being watched thereby conveying the sentiment of an invisible omniscience. Could this be some secret government or other organization controlling this. Could explain the food drops?? Jeremy Bentham designed something called panocticon which is a type of prison building that allow the observer to observe all prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell whether they are being watched thereby conveying the sentiment of an invisible omniscience. I think the key to figuring out what is going on is the choice of characters. If you look at a lot of the philoposhers they reference on the show this show comes down to what is free will and what is destiny. What makes up our actions and are they something that we naturally have or is it something learned. Great example is Locke and Jack. Jack is suppose to be the natural leader but needs to let go to see his path and Locke has experiences on his side to make him a leader. He often replied don't tell me what I can't do. His experiences have led him to become the nemesis and we will have to wait to see where this goes. My firm belief is that this will come down to choice and while I do believe we will be entering an alternate realty, I think that all roads will lead them back to the place of their origin and this which is their natural destiny. But I have a nagging feeling that some other agency or group has put this all together. I don't know why I keep seeing the reference in 316 episode of the island in the 1950's and the top secret thing going on that leads me to believe this may have been orchestrated

OBVIOLOGIST

Guys Jeremy Bentham was a 18th century philosopher (in real life, not in the history of Lost) who as the Poster above stated, Is the inventor of the Panopticon prison as well as a TON of writings. over 5 million words to be exact. the University college in london has been working to publish his collected works since 1968 and are still not half way done.

gypsybell

I just thought of something....'Jeremy Bentham' wasn't real in Lost was he? That was the alias that John Locke took when he went back to convince the Six to come back to the Island...So I must have missed an episode if Jeremy invented that prison room????

Great point! That is another thing that I've loved about Lost - this show, and the way it is written, really make one THINK! It makes us curious to explore what is really going on. It's nearly like the old fashioned entertainment of just reading a book. I love a challenge and have tried to look over all additional detail (and treasure hunts) the show's creators and producers have strategically placed on the internet to try and figure out this great puzzle. What you've put together for a possible resolution is really interesting. I do believe in the idea of it being orchestrated for sure - but by whom? That will be the ultimate answer. (So this is fiction, but the mystery has been phenomenal to me and certainly very creative overall). While I do enjoy some of the sitcoms and dramas on TV today, my favorites are always the Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Adventure shows like Lost which take us away from the every day mundane into a world of endless possibilities - good and bad.
