IN-DEPTHIlana was a passenger on Ajira flight 316. Prior to the flight, Ilana seduced Sayid Jarrah at a bar only to capture him at gunpoint. She told him that she had been hired by the family of the man Sayid had executed on a golf course when Sayid was working for Ben Linus as a hitman. Ilana told Sayid that her job was to take him to Guam, and they boarded the doomed Ajira filght 316 that would return the adult members of the Oceanic 6 to the island. Could she be acting as the counterpart to Marshal Edward Mars, who boarded Oceanic 815 with Kate Austen as his prisoner?Ilana apparently had some sort of allegiance to Jacob, who had visited her while she was hospitalized in Russia some time before she had met Sayid. On the island, it's clear Ilana is carrying out some sort of mission, as she and fellow Ajira 316 survivor Bram secure guns and take control of the camp. One of their objectives revolves around a metal crate that was cargo aboard their flight. When Frank Lapidus, the captain of Ajira 316, returns to the camp, Ilana knocks him out and takes him captive. Bram asks her if he could be a "candidate," but she never responds. What could Bram be referring to? Ilana, Lapidus and her team then journey to Jacob's cabin, where they discover that the ring of ash surrounding the building had been broken. What purpose did the ash serve? The disturbed ash was enough cause for alarm for Ilana and her team, and upon investigating the cabin, they discover someone had been there recently. As a result, Ilana orders to have the cabin burned down. Ilana and the group then journey to the four-toed statue of Tawaret, where they find Sun and the Others. Ilana asks to see Ricardus, and Richard Alpert responds. She asks him, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" Alpert answers in Latin, "He who will save us all." With this response, Ilana opens the crate, revealing the body of John Locke. If Locke is indeed dead, then who has been posing as him ever since Ajira flight 316 crashed?
