True Colors
Season 5 | Episode 20 | Aired 05/1/12

Mason has been defiant to Cooper lately. He seems to listen to Charlotte, who is still ticked at her hubby for pulling the "real parent" card on her. In other news, Cooper treats Melody, a young girl who believes she's a boy inside. Her parents don't want to hear any of this. Melody's mother is particularly insensitive to her plight. She orders Cooper and Violet to stay away from their daughter. That doesn't stop Melody from sneaking over to the office where Coop convinces Violet to have a chat with her. Their emotional conversation is interrupted when Mason stops by. He asks Melody if she's like to play. She happily joins him.

When Melody's parents arrive at the office, her mother tries to forcibly take her away. Mason yells for his dad to do something when he sees the woman is hurting Melody's arm. The confused mother ultimately breaks down in tears. Melody hugs her mom, who now can see that she's in a room filled with people who only want to help. Mason shoots his dad a satisfied smile. Later that night, father and son watch a movie on the sofa. Charlotte joins them as Cooper gives her a sincere apology for all things he said before.
