In Which Charlotte Goes Down the Rabbit Hole
Season 1 | Episode 106 | Aired 10/30/2007
Cooper treats a young girl, Tess, who has bruises up and down her arms. Tess swears she tripped and fell, but Cooper suspects child abuse. Her mom, Marilyn, is a frail woman with MS. Could she really hurt her daughter? Coop follows his instincts and calls child protective services.
Before he takes the stand in court, Cooper runs into Tess in the hallway. Tess admits her mother does abuse her, but argues that that's her cross to bear and Coop should butt out. He doesn't. On the stand, he testifies against Marilyn. Tess is going to be taken away from her. It was rough, but we all know Cooper did the right thing.
Addison and Naomi have a tough case. A young married woman, Angie, asks them to lie to her husband, Ray, and tell him he's infertile. She doesn’t want kids because she may be dying from Huntington's disease, in which one's brain cells slowly deteriorate. Angie doesn’t want Ray to leave her, nor can she bear the thought of bringing a child into the world just to watch her die. Addison’s tests are conclusive: Angie does have Huntington’s.
