It's Babypalooza day for the Oceanside docs. But before the birthday parties begin, Addison and Pete take a timeout to make out in the storeroom. Addison claims she doesn't want to be another notch in Pete’s acupuncture table (sounds painful), but he must be a good kisser because she eventually relents and agrees to meet him that night at her place.
But work comes first, as they have to assist Susan McCullough, the pregnant widow of a cop killed in the line of duty. In the Oceanside lobby, several police officers have gathered in support of Susan. Seeing all those boys in blue gets Addison extremely hot and bothered or, as she puts it, she's "en fuego." One officer, Kevin Nelson, particularly catches her eye. Wait, what about Pete?!
Susan, who's a control freak, has a panic attack in the birthing tub. The reality of her husband not being at her side hits hard. Addison jumps into the tub and sits behind Susan, wrapping her arms around the distraught woman, talking soothingly in her ear. Susan pushes and a baby boy is born.
[break]When Addison brings baby Jason McCullough Jr. out to show off to the waiting officers, they act like they're the proud parents themselves. We love this scene. Officer Kevin gets so caught up in the moment, he asks Addison out for a drink. She turns him down to be with Pete. Whew!
Pregnant Ashley, the mother of three rowdy boys and wife to an even rowdier husband, comes in for a routine checkup. But it quickly turns into “labor” day for Ashley and her fourth child—her first girl. But surprise, surprise…the ultrasound was wrong. She delivers a baby boy! Instead of being a proud, happy momma, Ashley falls into a deep funk. She really wanted a girl. With the help of our favorite Oceanside docs, Ashley is able have a chat with her hubby about being a better dad. Hope it works.
Sam goes on a house call for what he thinks is a woman with a hurt leg. But the "house" he goes to is a liquor store being held up by a young, desperate girl, Kelly, whose water has just broken. Kelly waves her gun in Sam's face and makes it clear: No cops, no paramedics. He needs to deliver this baby himself.
[break]As if trying to deliver a baby at gunpoint isn't bad enough, the baby gets stuck on the way out. Sam calls Naomi for help. Sam must reach in and rotate the shoulder counter-clockwise. He tells Kelly, "This is going to hurt." And it does! Kelly howls in pain, but Sam gets the baby in position and out it comes. It's a girl! That’s great, but we’re thinking they shouldn’t tell Ashley.
Violet and Cooper want to start a "friends with benefits" situation. We’re not sure if that’s a good idea or a bad idea. After the busy day, Violet and Cooper start to strip down in her bedroom for the 'benefit' portion of their friendship. Violet stands before him in all her naked glory, but Coop chickens out. He pulls his pants back up and bolts. Yeah, bad idea.
At Addison's place, she gets excited when the doorbell rings. But it's Cooper who is on the other side and he needs a shoulder to lean on. Both of Addison’s shoulders are free because it looks like Pete has stood her up. Pete ends up at Violet's door. He reveals that before his wife died, they were trying to have a baby. She lets him in to talk. So, it doesn’t look like there’s gonna be any “friends with benefits” action tonight. But all our Oceanside docs are certainly benefiting from their friendships.
When Sam returns from his outing, his tale of adventure turns Naomi on. She jumps on him and Sam doesn't resist. Their clothes start flying off and they make hot, passionate love right there on the Oceanside conference table. Better hope the cleaning crew doesn’t come in.
