We’re not surprised that Naomi remains bitter about Sam and Addison's hostile takeover of Oceanside Wellness Group. At the office, she dictates to Addison her new office rule: their communication will be limited to professional matters only. So much for maturity!
Sam places a dry-erase board in the conference room, with colored-coded dots indicating which of the doctors' schedules are full and which seem to be open. Violet calls him out on attempting to goad the less-than-busy docs into bringing more business to the practice. Sam has already brought in new business via corporate physicals through businessman Charlie Jenson.
Violet encourages Cooper to share any secrets he might have (i.e. she wants him to admit about sleeping with Charlotte). But Cooper is evasive, remaining tight-lipped.
[break]Naomi and Addison—who can barely look each other in the eye at this point—meet with Lisa and Brian, a young married couple who’ve been unable to conceive. The couple gushes that they've been soul mates since Junior High. Yeah, okay. Their genetic tests later reveal they are in fact brother and sister: their parents used the same sperm donor! While initially horrified, they decide to stay together. Ick. NAST. Addison warns that they must not have sex—as any fetus they conceive might have major birth defects.
*I don’t know about you, but over here we’re all in need of a dry-erase board—for our memory of that storyline!*
[break]During corporate physicals, Charlie tells Sam that Kirk, his terminally ill son, has been refusing treatment. They hear a crash: Kirk has collapsed in a nearby room, and is rushed to the hospital. Once there, Kirk rips the intubation tube from his throat in order to gasp out that he's ready to die.
Weighing in on Kirk’s condition, Pete tells Sam that the boy belongs in a hospice. Sam defends his decision—jumping on his at-the ready pulpit as we’ve come to expect. But Pete suspects Sam doesn’t want to lose the lucrative business Kirk’s father Charlie has brought to the practice. A blind man could have seen that as the reason!
[break]Sam asks Cooper to cover for him at a health fair that afternoon, and Cooper agrees, canceling lunch with Charlotte via text message. Smooth, Coop! Feeling stood-up, Charlotte tells him that she will not be treated like she doesn’t matter. Wow, when we’re applauding something Charlotte did, you know the character screwed up bad!
Kirk’s health declines, and Charlie insists he be put back on the ventilator. When Sam hesitates, Charlie threatens to withdraw his corporate business. Later, Pete questions Sam on whether what he's is doing what is best for the patient—or what is best for the finances of the practice.
[break]Finally, Naomi confronts Sam about how he and Addison control away from her. She reminds him it was she who built the practice from the ground up while he worked on his book. Addison continues her appeal to Naomi, but Naomi says going behind her back cannot be undone.
Eager to have Lisa’s tubes tied, the young couple returns. Brian confesses he knew they were siblings even before they got married. Just when this couldn’t get any creepier…
A horrified Lisa rejects him. Oh, now she’s horrified!?
[break]Cooper then reveals his affair with Charlotte to Violet and explains he kept mum because he was of afraid of what she would think.
Pete, Violet, and Cooper convince Sam that the aggressive business tactics have to stop. Sam then tells Charlie that it's time to let Kirk go.
Naomi confides in Charlotte of all people that the two people she counted on are now counting on each other. Wow, she must be lonely. Naomi returns home and sees Addison and Sam on their neighboring balconies. She goes to Sam’s door and tells him that she is furious with him, and will be for a long time.
So how does she plan to deal in the meantime?
Hate sex, lots and lots of it…with Sam. Sounds fair to us, and even better for Sam!
