Behind the Scenes: Cold Comforts

By Enuka Okuma and Sherry White Aug 16, 2012

It's time to go behind the scenes of Rookie Blue season three with exclusive commentary from the cast and creators of the show. This week, star Enuka Okuma (Traci Nash) and writer Sherry White discuss the aftermath of Det. Jerry Barber's death.

I need to state the obvious. Everyone looks fantastic in those uniforms. It's a somber moment, but I'm sorry, I'm impressed.

Sherry White: Writer
It's distracting me.

Sherry White: Writer
It was a hard episode. We wanted to do the big funeral, but we also decided to focus on our main people, and not blow all of our money and our time on a big thing that removes the personal from it.

Enuka Okuma: Traci Nash
Oh, I was dreading this episode, because I knew that it was going to be really sad. But it really pulled us all together in a way that has never happened before.

Sherry White: Writer
Did you watch last week's episode?

Enuka Okuma: Traci Nash
Yes. It was brutal.

I love how Matt Gordon does introspective.

Sherry White: Writer
He's one of those characters that this show needs so badly. You can imagine how hard it was to balance the tone in this episode and even his grief was able to take a tone that helped to alleviate the heaviness. Jerry also gave us that. We're going to feel the absence of that. We have been feeling the absence of that.

Enuka Okuma: Traci Nash
God, you can really feel the weight of it. This episode is so different.
