After a year away from Sacred Heart, J.D. is reuniting with the two loves of his life: Elliot and Turk. It feels like just yesterday that he and Turk were playing Giant Doctor while the three of them were learning the ropes of how to be a good doctor. Since then a lot has changed. J.D.’s married to Elliot and they’re expecting their first baby. He’s also back as a beloved visiting professor at the medical school where he will alter the lives of raw young students, thereby revolutionizing the practice of medicine. But no matter how many achievements he’s accumulated, he still has a reputation to uphold: Giant Doctor will always live on!
Zach Braff has many titles. Actor. Writer. Director. But we just know him as Newbie, Bambi and Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. But, like we said, he’s so much more than that wide-eyed intern we fell in love with on Scrubs. Don’t believe us? Well, then keep reading.
With his feature writing and directorial debut, Garden State, Zach plays the lead role in a cast which includes Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm and Method Man. The film garnered numerous awards, and Zach received a coveted WGA nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He also earned an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature, a nomination for Best First Screenplay, was awarded Best Directorial Debut by the National Board of Review, was named Breakthrough Director by the Hollywood Film Festival and Most Promising Filmmaker by the Chicago Film Critics Association. Whew! That’s impressive.
Zach is currently set to direct the Paramount feature Swingles. The film centers on a bachelor who is dumped by his wingman and teams up with a sharp-tongued woman (played by Cameron Diaz) he can't stand in order to meet singles. Zach will have a supporting role in the film.
As an actor, Zach was nominated for a 2005 Primetime Emmy Award and a 2005, 2006 and 2007 Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of J.D. on Scrubs. His filmography includes roles in The Broken Hearts Club, Getting to Know You and Manhattan Murder Mystery, in which he plays Woody Allen and Diane Keaton’s son. He can also be heard as the voice of Chicken Little in the animated Disney flick. Zach also stars in Dreamworks’ The Last Kiss and The Weinstein Company’s The Ex. His stage experience includes New York City’s Public Theater productions of Twelfth Night and Macbeth, with Alec Baldwin and Angela Bassett.
Zach is currently co-writing, with his brother, Adam, an adaptation of the children’s book, Andrew Henry’s Meadow. He’ll also serve as Executive Producer on the project.
A native of New Jersey and graduate of Northwestern University’s film program, Zach studied theater acting while writing and directing his own short films. Looks like all that hard work truly paid off!
