When Mekia Cox was only 2 years old, she performed her first solo song and dance in front of an audience. The first words out of her mouth after coming off stage were, “I liked it up there!” She knew right then that her purpose in life was to entertain.
After honing her skills at Florida State University’s Musical Theater program, she went on to tour the nation in the musicals “Fame” and “Smokey Joe’s Cafe.” At the end of her second year of touring, she landed her first television role on “One Tree Hill.”
Shortly after her arrival in Los Angeles, she landed guest starring roles in “CSI:NY,” “Half and Half,” and “Bones.”
In 2009, Cox was chosen as one of two female lead dancers to take part in the legendary pop-star Michael Jackson’s comeback tour, as well as its subsequent documentary, “This Is It,” where she was featured in the performance of “The Way You Make Me Feel.”
Upon her return to the small screen, Cox starred in the J.J. Abrams series “Undercovers,” as well as Frank Darabont’s limited series “Mob City.” Her other TV credits include “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Gotham,” “Key & Peele,” “Almost Human” and “Necessary Roughness.” She is also featured opposite Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell in the feature “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”
In her spare time, Cox shares her experience with other performers by directing and producing original works. In June, she performed a sold-out, one-night-only performance of “Broadway at the W,” featuring an ensemble performance of songs and dances from various Broadway shows.
Cox currently resides in Los Angeles.
