5 Wonderland Themed Bites for Premiere Night

  • By Ellie Sher

Tumble down the rabbit hole this fall with these Wonderland themed bites, and tune in to the series premiere of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland on Thursday, October 10 at 8/7c.

1. The Doctor’s Cure Cocktail

Revered by the Greeks for its medicinal properties, fennel would make a regular appearance in Alice’s everyday drinks as her doctors try to cure her insanity. Revamp Alice’s cure-all beverage by sipping on these gin based cocktails laden with fennel-infused simple syrup that will cure just about anything you’ve got. Watch how they’re made, above!

2. Queen of Hearts Sprouts Salad

With orders from the Queen, go “off with their heads” for this bold starter composed of shaved heads of baby cabbage. Chock-full of apple slices, toasted hazelnuts, and pecorino, this zippy pick lays out all its cards to avoid one of the Queen’s infamous executions.

3. Hanger Steak with Adventure-Inducing Mushrooms

It’s no surprise that some mushrooms are hallucinogens. While the hen-of-the-woods variety accompanying this tender hanger steak is anything but dangerous, you can pretend that they’ll lead you to experience the same fantastic phenomenon as Alice does.

4. The Key to Cyrus’ Heart

When Alice finally reunites with her love, Cryus, it would only be fitting to serve him her heart, or rather, artichoke hearts. Stuffed with an irresistible mixture of bread crumbs, garlic, and cheese, these roasted vegetables make for a satisfying side. Though artichokes may seem difficult to prepare, nothing is impossible in Wonderland.

5. A Mad Tea-Party Tea Cake

Think Time is at a standstill? It’s perpetually tea time in Alice’s miraculous and terrifying fantasy land, so it’s only proper to finish the meal with a carrot tea cake the White Rabbit would fawn over. Label with the words “Eat Me” as a nod to Alice’s initial discovery down the rabbit hole, and share some harmless riddles while you’re at it.
