Last week Hurricane Sandy devastated many in the New York and New Jersey area leaving homes destroyed and families displaced. To help those in need the Walt Disney Company named today as the Day of Giving, and we are working to do our part and reach out to those in need.
Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company is donating $2 million cash to those severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. A million dollars will be given directly to the American Red Cross for immediate, critical assistance, and another million will be designated for organizations working on rebuilding efforts.
Additionally, throughout the day ABC shows including The View, General Hospital, Jimmy Kimmel Live and, of course, here at The Chew we will be adding public service announcements to the scheduled programming making it easy for you at home to get involved.
If you are interested in donating just click here or you can Text ABC to 90999 to give $10 to the American Red Cross.
Here at The Chew, Hurricane Sandy has affected many of our own behind-the-scene family members and one familiar face, Mama T. Our beloved grandma’s son lost his home on Staten Island during the disaster.
In addition to checking in with Mama T today we are also working with Feeding America to help those who are hungry and impacted by the storm.
