More to Chew On: Outrageous Weight Loss Surgery

  • By The Chew Crew

With bikini season behind us, how important is it to you to drop a few pounds? If you’ve got extreme weight loss on the brain, then you’ll want to get a load of this new and outrageous diet trend: the tongue patch. This new cosmetic surgery procedure can allegedly aid in weight loss by helping people lose up to 30 pounds in one month via a postage-stamp-size patch on the tongue.

Tongue-tied? Allow us to explain: The patch, which is secured to the top of the patient’s tongue using six stitches, is designed to make eating solid food so painful that patients resort to consuming only liquids.

Who’s the genius behind this one? The tongue patch is the brainchild of Dr. Nikolas Chugay, a Beryly Hills-based cosmetic surgeon, who said all patients are given an easy-to-follow liquid diet that fulfills all nutritional needs while minimizing caloric intake. Chugay charges $2,000 for the procedure and it is not yet approved by the FDA. How shocking.

Tell us what you think: What would drive someone to get a procedure like this? Would you ever consider the tongue patch?
