More to Chew On: Tipping Etiquette

By The Chew Crew October 9th, 2013

NFL quarterback Drew Brees caused quite a stir when it was revealed that he tipped $3 on a $74 bill at Del Mar Rendezvous Restaurant in Del Mar, California. As it turns out, the bill wasn’t for a sit down meal, but rather a takeout order that Brees was picking up from the restaurant. Brees’ latest controversy raises the question: What is proper etiquette when it comes to tipping on a pickup order?

In response, Michael lays down the law when it comes to tipping. When it comes to takeout, tipping is not essential, but if you choose to tip, then it can be a small amount. But, how about when it comes to at a restaurant, bar, or on delivery? Just remember the magic number: 20%.

At the Restaurant: 20%

At the Bar: 20%

On Food Delivery: 20%

Tell Us What You Think: Is Michael’s tipping cheat sheet in line with your tipping practices?
