Just because it isn’t summer anymore doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice relaxing drink.  In fact according to a new study from the American Chemical Society if you’re a senior you should probably have one since they say it may prevent falls.  Scientists say that resveratrol, the compound found in red wine, could help improve senior mobility and prevent falls.  In the study, researchers fed young and old lab mice a resveratrol-rich diet for eight weeks. Older mice fell less when loaded with resveratrol.  Before you start drinking heavily know that the body has difficulty absorbing resveratrol. It would take 700 four-ounce glasses of red wine a day for your body to absorb enough of the compound to see any positive outcomes.

In other alcohol related news the Salumé Panini Shop in New York City has created the world’s first line of alcoholic sandwiches.  The sandwiches are infused with different liquors, but the owners maintain you will NOT get a buzz from them.  They marinade the meats and veggie in alcohol anywhere from an hour to a few days. Then more alcohol is added at assembly. If you’re in New York try a beet root panini infused with scotch or ham with bourbon!
