More to Chew On: Last Bites From Around the Country

Here at The Chew we know how important it is in this economy to have a few bucks were you can.  So, today we’re sharing all our most budget friendly meals, crafting tips and news.  First off, did you know that Wednesday is the best day to go grocery shopping?  Most grocery stores get shipments of fresh food on Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday, they are trying to clear out all items from the prior week.  Also, grocery stores tend to do less business Tuesday through Thursday because most families do their grocery shopping either at the beginning or at the end of a given week not in the middle.

On top of that, MyGroceryDeals.com reports that approximately HALF of all retailers start their weekly sales on Wednesday.  The best time on Wednesday to shop is during the last few hours before closing. At the end of the day, grocery stores will often reduce their price of produce by up to 50% to encourage quick sales.

Wednesday is also the best day to buy gas!  Anyone who owns a car knows gas prices are rising but what you don’t know is there are financially smart times to fill up your tank that can save you major cash.  According to Time Magazine, stations tend to raise their prices on Thursday to profit of weekend travel and this is especially true until winter.  It’s best to go Wednesday morning.  The reason is that often between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., gas station managers and owners get around to checking out their competition’s prices. In times of rising gas prices, if competing gas stations have raised their prices they will too, often between 10 a.m. and noon.
