More to Chew On: Last Bites From Around the Country

By The Chew Crew Sep 18, 2012

It's Tuesday here at The Chew and we've got all the food news you need.  From an alcohol ban in Poland to restaurant week in Paris to the inside scoop on Greek yogurt, we've got you covered.

Were you thinking about having a fall picnic?  We’ve got just the thing for you – a wine bottle with four built-in glasses.  This handy invention from Stacked is a wine  bottle in a glass of its own and it offers quality wine without the hassle of a bottle, corkscrew or stemware.  The bottle separates into four stemless wine glasses.  Each glass contains 187 ml of wine, and a 4-pack has 750 ml, the same as a traditional bottle of wine.   Check it out here.

Speaking of drinking, you might want to be careful what you drink if you’re going to the Czech Republic sometime soon.  Just yesterday Poland issued a thirty day ban on hard alcohol imported from the Czech Republic.  Legitimate looking bottles of alcohol were found laced with methanol and consumption of this toxic beverage has resulted in more than 20 deaths and 36 injuries, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Throughout the country the only alcohol available for consumption is wine and beer.  Find out more about the situation here.

In other food news, this week marks the official restaurant week of Paris, or Tous au Restaurant, and the French have adapted a growing American trend, the food truck.  Instead of just using trucks many chefs are using a restaurmobile, which is much larger than food trucks here and even seats up to forty people.  Though this is a trend mostly seen with younger chefs some bigger names like Alain Ducuasse and Thierry Marx are also trying it out.  Check out the full schedule here.

Finally, do you like Greek yogurt?  Here at The Chew we can’t get enough of it.  In fact Michael is often adding it into recipes for a creamy touch.  Food Republic shares our affinity for the yogurt and they talked to Russell B. Evan, the U.S. marketing director for Fage.  Find out what he had to say about this popular food.
