The Original Iron Grannies (and Their Recipes)

By The Chew Crew Mar 06, 2013

There’s nothing like your grandma’s cooking -- and now science proves it!  According to a new survey from Mintel, the average woman reaches a highly proficient level of cooking at age 55.
Today, three new grandmas try their best to impress the co-hosts and earn the coveted title of “The Next Iron Grandma.”  Check out some of the best recipes we've seen from our previous winners, Mama T, Daisy and Antoinette.
Mama T

Now a regular on the show this Staten Island grandma knows a thing or two about making a crowd-pleasing dish.  From her tasty eggplant stacks to her clam dish to her baked ziti this grandma has proved herself a top noch cook time and time again.

Daisy is the southern grandma you never had and always wanted.  Her melt in your mouth biscuits and red-eye gravy are absolutely delicious, not to mention her chicken and dumplings.
After losing out several times to Daisy and Mama T, Antoinette finally took home her own trophy during the Thanksgiving smackdown.  Her savory stuffing was too good to be denied, but we also love her meatloaf and pasta primavera.
