To kick off the week long series of American Originals, Chew Correspondent Evette Rios ventures to New York City’s Delmonico’s to visit the home of the original Eggs Benedict. For those who may not know, the infamous brunch dish consists of an English muffin topped with ham or bacon, two poached eggs, and a touch of hollandaise sauce. It is believed that Mrs. LeGrand Benedict, a regular at Delmonico’s, wanted to try something new for lunch, and thus Eggs Benedict was born. The secret? Delmonico’s never overdresses the eggs in sauce; a slight touch of hollandaise is all it takes.
