Manny Delgado's Valentine's Day Menu

By Ellie Sher Feb 12, 2013

For precocious 14 year old Manny Delgado, Valentine’s Day means a lavish affair. Whether celebrating with his parents, or with a special someone, Manny would ensure every detail was classy and sophisticated from start to finish.

Drinks:

Tropical Mai Tai

Whether vacationing in Hawaii or at home in California, Manny considers a couple of virgin Mai Tais as the key to a girl’s heart. By substituting orange juice for alcohol, Manny has a festive drink that’s guaranteed to impress.

Appetizers:

Crispy Potato Fritters (a.k.a Tater Tots)

Manny is a real ladies man, and older women are his specialty. Rather than serving traditional tater tots, Manny would spring for these classy potato fritters, which are the perfect accompaniment to a refreshing virgin cocktail.

Mains:

Fresh Cod Wraps (a.k.a Fish Tacos)

Valentine’s Day is about showing those you love how much you care. One of Manny’s efforts would begin on the home front, working to improve Jay’s diet. These fiesta-worthy tacos, made with Greek yogurt and cod, are a healthy spin on the wrapped delight. Now that’s something Manny should tell Jay to “write that down.”

Sicilian Flatbread (a.k.a Pizza)

Manny wouldn’t rely on Scardino's pizzeria (or even Scandoni's) to deliver a top-shelf pie. Instead, he would cater to his date, and prepare a homemade pizza with rich sauce and top it with the works. This over-the-top recipe calls for creamy mozzarella, capers, and olives for a heavenly match of toppings to dough.

Desserts:

Tiramisu (a.k.a Manny's Speciality)

Forget conversation candy hearts and leave dessert to the Italians. Traditional Tiramisu combines lady fingers and cream, and this decadent rendition incorporates bands of cherry puree and white chocolate mascarpone between the amaretto- or coffee-soaked biscuits. With this layered confection, Manny will secure a Valentine for years to come.

Frozen Banana and Vanilla Mix (a.k.a Banana and Vanilla Milkshake)

Rather than mixing sodas on a celebration day, Manny would mix up this decadent frozen treat. A hefty dose of vanilla in the form of wafers, ice cream, and extract transforms a basic drink to an over-the-top treat. Add two straws and you're set for a romantic Valentine’s dessert.

Chocolate, Marshmallow and Graham Cream Puffs (a.k.a S'mores Cream Puffs)

Extremely creative for his age, Manny would reinvent the classic s’more into this grown-up rendition. These irresistible bites are made of flaky pastry dough that is filled with light, airy cream, dipped in chocolate, and topped with graham cracker crumbs and mini marshmallows.
