More to Chew On: Tailgating Tips

Tailgate like a pro with Michael’s easy-to-follow tailgating guidelines:

Just as your wouldn’t pack mayo-based salads for a picnic, the same rules hold true for a tailgate. Potato, pasta, tuna or chicken salads dressed with mayonnaise need to be kept around 40F, and even with an ice-packed cooler, your food wouldn’t be able to get that cold and would therefore spoil. For this reason, a good alternative is a vinegar and oil based dressing.

Ice cream sundaes may sound great, especially on football Sunday, but it’s pretty clear that they would not travel well. Even with a big cooler, anything that needs to be frozen will end up melting in the back of your car. Instead, opt for cookies or bars that you can bake ahead and bring ready to serve.

Go hands-free when it comes to tailgating. Forget any items that would require a plastic knife, and stick to handheld foods like burgers and hotdogs. Looking for some more hand-held inspiration? Check out these 5 recipes for when you’re on the go.
