The Benefits of Breakfast

By Aaron Welsh

Remember when your mom used to tell you that breakfast was the most important meal of the day?  Well, she was right.

Not only does a good breakfast jumpstart your metabolism, but it also prevents late night snacking and helps you lose weight.  No matter how busy you are or how many times you hit the snooze button, do yourself a favor and have breakfast.

Breakfast Helps Your Lose Weight

Many people skip breakfast in an effort to diet.  However, this method is usually not the most sound one.  Experts say that eating breakfast helps keep your metabolism running and helps you maintain or lose weight.

Also, eating breakfast keeps you from getting excessively hungry throughout the day and making unhealthy snack and meal choices.  Research shows that if you start your day with a nutritious breakfast you are more likely to eat healthy throughout the rest of the day than if you skip it entirely.

What Should You Eat

Not all breakfast foods are created equal, so when you pick out the first meal of your day be sure to select a healthy choice.  Many breakfast options contain loads of sodium, fat and sugar while providing no nutritional benefits.  Instead, select a meal that is full of protein and fiber.  The combination will fill you up and make it easier for you to make those good healthy decisions the rest of the day.
