Cheesy Garlic Donuts
  • 1 pound store bought pizza dough
  • 1/2 all purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 head garlic (chopped)
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • a pinch red pepper flakes
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 cup sundried tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup basil (thinly sliced, for serving)
  • canola oil (for frying)
Directions
  • Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
  • In a large Dutch oven heat the canola oil to 350ºF. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly flour.
  • Flour the work surface and using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to ¾-inch thick. Using a donut cutter, or two cookie cutters, cut into 4 donuts. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  • In a medium saute pan add the butter and garlic and cook until the garlic is fragrant, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a large glass bowl.
  • To another large glass bowl combine the grated parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  • Fry the donuts for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oil and toss in the butter and garlic mixture. Transfer to the parmesan mixture and toss to coat.
  • Transfer to a baking sheet and top each donut with a piece of provolone cheese. Bake until the cheese begins to melt, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from oven and garnish with sundried tomatoes and basil. Serve immediately.
