"The View" Co-hosts Discuss Removal of Confederate Flag from South Carolina State Capitol

On Friday July 10th, 2015 the Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina State capitol, an action called for and discussed several times during Hot Topics by "The View" co-hosts. This is the first time since 1961 that this battle flag has been removed.  The topic of removing this flag was approached during Hot Topics on June 22nd, 2015 after the deadly shooting of several people in a historic black church.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Republican Presidential Candidate Senator Linsdey Graham spoke out in support of removing the Confederate battle flag from the South Carolina Capitol dome. "The View" co-hosts debated why it took this long to get this process started and why there are still some Republicans that disagree with this decision. Rosie Perez says Civil Rights is a national issue not a state issue.

Earlier this week South Carolina lawmakers approved a bill to remove the confederate flag from the capitol. The co-hosts agreed with decision. On Thursday July 9th, 2015, Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie Perez explained the history behind the hate the flag symbolizes.

The Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina state capitol the morning of Friday July 10th, 2015.
