For Betty, high school wasn’t all pomp and circumstance. Her onetime teen rival has come to Mode seeking a job. But Betty soon learns she’d best watch her back—and her skirt!
Naturally, with both Daniel and Wilhelmina serving as editor in chief, neither one will budge on their conflicting ideas for the center spread of Mode’s Valentine's issue. Daniel is aiming for a "Love Is a Battlefield" war theme, while Wilhelmina wants "Puppy Love." Something tells us this issue’s going to the dogs!
Betty’s old arch-nemesis Kimmie (Lindsay Lohan) shows up at Mode. She tells Betty she quit her job at Flushing Burger, and wants Betty to help her turn things around by getting her a job at the magazine. You know, because it’s simply that easy. Just then, Daniel walks in and says Betty should get a temp to help her with her workload. Apparently it really is that easy!
Through a hilarious flashback scene, Betty tells Christina about her torturous past with Kimmie. Betty asked to sit with her at lunch in high school one day, and Kimmie pulled down Betty’s skirt in front of the entire cafeteria full of students. "And that's why for four years they called me Granny Pants," Betty laments.
Elsewhere, Justin tells his school pal he's going to audition for the lead role in Billy Elliot on Broadway. As they walk down the hallway, a bully knocks Justin's books out of his hands. "I am sure this happened to Patti Lupone," he quips to his gal pal. Don’t cry for him, Argentina!
After Marc and Amanda begin taunting Kimmie at work, Betty has a change of heart and sets out to turn her frenemy into the perfect assistant. After a while, Kimmie appears to be getting better on the job, and asks Betty to go out clubbing. But next thing we know, Amanda apprehends the clueless newbie and takes her to The Closet for a fab makeover. Kimmie then drops the bombshell that she also invited Marc and Amanda to go clubbing with her and Betty. Ugh.
At the Billy Elliot auditions, Justin runs into the jock bully from school, who’s also out to land the part. Geez, they don’t make roughnecks like they used to! Neither makes the cut, and Justin sees his nemesis crying after the audition and comforts him. In school the next day, the two appear to be on track to becoming buddies.
After losing custody of DJ, Daniel admits to his mother that "clock is ticking," and that he wants a family. Cue up him registering with a discrete, high-end matchmaking organization. His date sounds promising—they’re set to meet for a romantic boat ride— until he arrives and discovers he’s been set up with Wilhelmina! Dun, dun, dunnnn!
After spending an evening in each other’s company—without clawing each other’s eyes out, mind you—Wilhelmina and Daniel come to find they can actually be civil with each other (for now). Wilhelmina even acquiesces to Daniel’s “battlefield” idea for the Valentine’s issue. Is there fire in the Ice Queen’s heart, after all?
Kimmie, Marc and Amanda hit it off on the way to the club and completely ignore Betty. Hmph—like we didn’t see that one coming. But Kimmie eventually ditches Mode’s Mean Girls and takes Betty out to three more clubs.
However, it turns out to be a game of sabotage Kimmie's playing, as she makes sure to arrive at work early the next morning while Betty sleeps in. "You may have graduated, but high school never ends," Christina warns our fashion-challenged heroine.
Later, in the break room at Mode, Kimmie asks Betty to get her some water. Kimmie comes up behind Betty, and Betty, thinking she’s about to relive the nightmare scenario where her tormentor yanked down her skirt, whips around and actually pulls down Kimmie's skirt. Everyone in sight shows sympathy for the embarrassed schemer—including Marc and Amanda, who comfort her and whisk her away.
The final insult comes when Daniel and Wilhelmina promote Kimmie to associate editor after all the great press she landed Mode in the tabloids after her flashy night of clubbing.
