Emily Skeggsas Younger Roma Guy
Newcomer Emily Skeggs plays the part of Younger Roma Guy in the limited series event "When We Rise," from Dustin Lance Black ("Milk"). Roma is portrayed in later episodes by Mary-Louis Parker. The series chronicles the real-life personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement, from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today.
From rural Maine, Roma Guy is a lesbian and a long-time social justice leader who co-founded the San Francisco Women's Building. Then, as a Public Health Commissioner, she worked with others to bring healthcare access to all San Franciscans. She is currently a criminal justice activist.
Aside from "When We Rise," Skeggs has a recurring role on WGN's "Salem." Additionally, she was nominated for Tony Award for her role as "Medium Alice" in "Fun Home." Her theater credits include "Fanny's First Play," "And I and Silence," "Transport," "Our Town," "Take Me Along," "Ripcords," "Much Ado About Nothing," "The Golden Age," "Macbeth," "City of Angels" and "Song of a New World."
Skeggs is a graduate from Emerson College and is fluent in Italian.
