Summer 2009

The summer is a great time to give back to your community. Kids are out of school, the weather is great, and many people have a little extra time to share. A Better Community would like to spotlight a new initiative from the Corporation for National and Community Service called, United We Serve, encouraging Americans to create meaningful change in their communities by engaging in service. Kicking off June 22, United We Serve will run through the new National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11. The website serve.gov has numerous features designed to help you get involved, such as a new volunteer matching platform called "All for Good" that allows you to search for volunteer opportunities based on your location and personal interests. The site also includes social media tools to share volunteer opportunities with friends and see what activities they are participating in.
